About the Role:
The RN OR Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the operating room by coordinating nursing activities and facilitating communication among surgical teams. This position is responsible for overseeing the preparation, scheduling, and management of surgical procedures to optimize patient outcomes and resource utilization. The coordinator acts as a liaison between surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to maintain a safe and sterile environment. They also monitor compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies to uphold the highest quality of care. Ultimately, the RN OR Coordinator ensures that all perioperative processes are executed seamlessly to support excellent patient care and operational efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
- Minimum of 3 years of perioperative nursing experience, preferably in an operating room setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and perioperative nursing standards.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) credential.
- Experience in operating room coordination or management roles.
- Advanced certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and surgical scheduling software.
- Demonstrated leadership or team management experience.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily operating room schedules and ensure timely availability of staff and equipment.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to facilitate effective communication and workflow.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with infection control protocols and safety standards within the OR.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new perioperative nursing staff and support ongoing professional development.
- Manage documentation related to surgical procedures, staffing, and equipment usage to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Respond promptly to any issues or emergencies that arise during surgical procedures to minimize disruptions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety and operational efficiency.
