Job DetailsJob Location: Foundation YMCA - Wilson, NC 27893Position Type: Part TimeSalary Range: $10.00 - $15.00 HourlyPOSITION SUMMARY: The Custodian supports the mission of the Foundation YMCA of Wilson by maintaining a clean, safe, welcoming, and sanitary environment for members, guests, program participants, volunteers, and staff. This position performs routine and deep cleaning, restocks supplies, responds to immediate facility needs, and reports safety or maintenance concerns promptly. Work may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on facility operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Clean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, showers, offices, classrooms, fitness areas, common spaces, and other assigned areas according to established schedules and procedures. Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, vacuum, spot-clean, and maintain floors; clean glass, mirrors, fixtures, walls, doors, furniture, and other surfaces. Empty trash and recycling containers; replace liners and transport waste to designated collection areas. Restock soap, paper products, and other facility supplies; notify the supervisor when inventory is low. Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and respond promptly to spills, bodily fluids, and other urgent sanitation needs using required procedures and personal protective equipment. Set up, take down, and clean rooms or equipment for programs, meetings, rentals, and special events as assigned. Perform routine checks of assigned areas and promptly report hazards, damage, pest activity, plumbing issues, equipment problems, or needed repairs. Use, label, store, and dispose of cleaning chemicals safely; follow Safety Data Sheets, bloodborne pathogens requirements, and all YMCA safety procedures. Maintain custodial closets, carts, tools, and equipment in a clean, orderly, and secure condition. Provide courteous assistance to members and guests and help create a welcoming environment consistent with YMCA values. Follow opening, closing, security, emergency, and incident-reporting procedures as assigned. Complete cleaning logs, checklists, and other required documentation accurately and on time. Work cooperatively with staff and independently with limited supervision; maintain confidentiality and professional conduct. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Previous custodial, housekeeping, or facilities experience preferred; training may be provided. Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, sanitation practices, chemical safety, and safe equipment operation preferred. Ability to read and follow labels, written instructions, cleaning schedules, and safety procedures. Dependable and punctual, with the ability to organize work, manage time, and complete assigned tasks with attention to detail. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with members, guests, volunteers, vendors, and staff. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy, public-facing environment. Must meet any required background screening and job-specific training requirements. CPR/AED, First Aid, bloodborne pathogens, and chemical-safety training must be completed within the timeframe established by the YMCA, if required for the assignment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, push, and pull. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and move heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment. Ability to push and pull custodial carts, trash containers, vacuums, mops, and other cleaning equipment. Ability to climb stairs and safely use step stools or ladders as permitted by YMCA policy. Manual dexterity and visual ability sufficient to operate cleaning tools and equipment and identify spills, hazards, and areas requiring attention. Ability to work around cleaning products, dust, odors, noise, temperature changes, wet floors, and occasionally outdoor conditions while using required protective equipment. Ability to communicate needs, understand instructions, and respond appropriately in routine and emergency situations.
