Position Summary
The Senior Applications Engineer will serve as Energetiq’s technical authority on customer applications, industry trends, and market adoption of LDLS technology. Working closely with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, Service, and Marketing, this individual will help answer customer and sales technical questions, develop customer-focused application content, guide internal application testing to support customer inquiries, and strengthen technical knowledge across the company.
This role is ideal for a highly experienced professional who enjoys teaching, sharing knowledge, solving complex technical challenges, and helping customers and colleagues succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Applications Leadership
- Serve as Energetiq’s subject matter expert for LDLS applications and customer workflows.
- Develop a deep understanding of customer measurement challenges across semiconductor, photonics, spectroscopy, and scientific instrumentation markets.
- Lead application benchmarking, performance validation, and technical evaluations.
- Identify emerging applications, market opportunities, and industry trends that can influence future product development.
- Act as a technical resource for strategic customer opportunities and business development activities.
- Define practical application experiments and internal test plans that help validate product performance against customer requirements.
Technical Content Development
- Develop application notes, white papers, technical presentations, customer success stories, webinars, and training materials.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive internal knowledge base of customer applications, measurement techniques, and best practices.
- Generate technical content that clearly demonstrates the value and differentiation of LDLS technology.
- Support marketing and product management with technically accurate customer-facing collateral.
Customer & Market Engagement
- Support strategic customer engagements, evaluations, and technical discussions.
- Participate selectively in customer visits, demonstrations, workshops, and industry conferences.
- Gather and communicate customer feedback, unmet needs, and market trends to Product Management and Engineering.
- Help customers optimize implementation and utilization of Energetiq products.
- Document test results, application findings, and technical recommendations in a clear format that can be used for customer communication, sales support, and future reference.
- Develop and execute internal application testing, feasibility studies, and performance evaluations to support customer inquiries and technical recommendations.
- Support sales with timely technical responses, application guidance, product selection input, and customer-specific use case discussions.
- Answer technical and application questions from customers, sales, service, and business development teams.
Technical Leadership & Knowledge Development
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor across Product Management, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Operations.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence through knowledge sharing, coaching, and collaborative problem solving.
- Lead internal training sessions on customer applications, industry trends, measurement techniques, and competitive technologies.
- Help capture, document, and transfer application knowledge across the organization.
- Support the development of technical capabilities throughout the company by sharing industry best practices and real-world customer experiences.
- Provide guidance on complex technical challenges and strategic customer opportunities.
Product & Technology Guidance
- Partner with Product Management to translate customer needs into product requirements and roadmap recommendations.
- Provide insight into competitive technologies, industry trends, and future market opportunities.
- Support development of future products through application-driven customer insights.
- Contribute to long-term technology and market strategy discussions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optics, Photonics, Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
- 6+ years of experience in applications engineering, semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation, optical systems, photonics, spectroscopy, metrology, or related technical fields.
- Demonstrated success supporting complex technical products and customer applications.
- Experience working directly with OEMs, research organizations, or advanced technology customers.
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.
- Experience designing or supporting application tests, feasibility studies, product evaluations, or customer-driven technical investigations.
- Experience developing technical documentation, training content, or application-focused materials.
- Strong understanding of optical systems, photonics, scientific instrumentation, semiconductor process technology, or advanced measurement techniques.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to connect customer needs with technical solutions and product requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in semiconductor metrology, inspection, process control, or advanced instrumentation markets.
- Familiarity with spectroscopy, photonics, plasma-based systems, UV/VIS/NIR measurements, or light source technologies.
- Experience supporting global technology companies and OEM partners.
- Recognized expertise within a relevant technical field.
- Established industry relationships and customer network.
The compensation salary range for this role is $135,000 to $160,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
