About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Potomac Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [PE]

This position is responsible for supervising the planning, scheduling, and monitoring of Substation construction and maintenance Projects.  Reporting location to be determined based on successful candidate location. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety, strengthening the commitment to safety throughout the substation organization. 
  • Coordinating and supervising the daily activities of Substation Distribution Techs, administrative support, and bargaining unit personnel by making decisions guided by policies, procedures, and business plan which help to drive continuous improvement across the business unit and FirstEnergy.
  • Conducting applicant interviews, managing employee’s performance to achieve established objectives, conduction performance reviews with employees and providing coaching on an ongoing basis. 
  • Conduct weekly work plan meetings with substation leadership in order to ensure adequate labor resources are available to complete planned work. 
  • Reviewing capital orders to ensure correct time, material, and invoice charging.
  • Allocate and track labor resources for maintenance and construction activities.  
  • Provide labor budget forecast to ensure all work is completed within budget.
  • Identifying and coordinating the specific construction and maintenance work activities and workforce required to complete a work request in compliance with company standards and legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinating work request activity with other customers, contractors, internal entities, and line department sections (including contacts beyond normal work hours, as appropriate), and providing status updates when requested.
  • Track completion of Regulatory required maintenance for Substations and Controls using Cascade and Excel.  Provide regular updates to ensure State and BES regulatory commitments are fulfilled.
  • Manage the PE Substations Capital Spare Equipment Inventory utilizing Excel and Cascade to maintain an updated record of spare equipment.
  • Manage Cascade data and lead effort to maintain accurate Cascade data, including adding, modifying, and deleting equipment in Cascade.  Provide equipment update information to plant accounting.  Providing Cascade training and support.
  • Attend project planning meetings and monitor anticipated material, construction drawing and outage availability to determine when internal Substation labor will be required. 
  • Learn processes related to Capital Portfoilo, Engineering workflow, work order finances etc. in order to serve as a resource to others. 
  • Aiding during emergencies and storm-related activities and traveling to various off-site locations as well as FirstEnergy office locations, training facilities and customer sites, when requested.

 

Qualifications include: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline and four (4) years of related work experience is required; or Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline and eight (8) years of related work experience is required; or High School Diploma (or GED) 10 years of related work experience is required.  Related work experience is knowledge of construction and maintenance practices (i.e., overhead lines, underground lines, substation, etc.), procedures, work methods, materials, equipment, and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities.
  • Awareness of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret work requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals and procedures to develop accurate work plans.
  • Working knowledge of the purpose, function, and operating characteristics of equipment and systems, (i.e.:  substation, overhead lines, underground lines), as well as working knowledge of construction methods, maintenance practices, service practices, standards, and procedures.
  • Skill in the development, collection, organization, and analysis of information from a variety of sources to compile and monitor reports (i.e., Qlikview, PowerBI, Cascade, OPPM, ITOA, etc.), providing information on backlog and productivity. 
  • Superior analytical skills and be able to effectively work with all levels of employees, as well as with customers, contractors, and the general public, in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of residential, commercial, and utility electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Full proficiency with PC software applications including Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.) along with knowledge of SAP, geographical information system (GIS), customer request work scheduling (CREWS), FEWS (work scheduling), FWRD (field worker remote display), power outage reporting system (OMA), computer aided drafting (CAD/AutoCAD) and Energy Delivery Outage Application. Experience with database query tools.
  • Able to understand and apply knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Understand and apply the company's Accident Prevention Handbook to safety in the workplace.
  • Able to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems on projects and/or processes.
  • Provide both internal and external quality customer service and demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess leadership qualities that allow one to provide effective guidance to others, coach others in effective decision-making and facilitate meetings.
  • Must have a personal vehicle to commute to various facilities and locations as required, possessing a valid driver's license.
