PURPOSE OF POSITION: The HR Generalist will support Goodwill Industries of Kansas in fostering an inclusive and productive work environment. This role is responsible for managing various human resources functions including employee relations, performance management, recruitment and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive approach to HR practices, supporting the organization’s mission to provide employment opportunities and resources to people in our community.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of HR experience with emphasis on employee relations and recruitment.
  • Non-profit human resources experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and Teams.
  • Experience in ADP preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in employment laws and compliance (FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO).
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build trust and credibility across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
  • Must pass background check and drug screen.
  • Possesses valid driver's license and insurable.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Possesses a high level of professionalism, confidentiality and attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary HR resource for assigned business units by providing guidance to employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, employment practices, and workplace matters.
  • Partner with leaders to support employee relations, performance management, corrective action guidance, conflict resolution, compliance needs, and consistent application of Goodwill policies.
  • Support full-cycle recruitment and onboarding activities, including sourcing, screening, interview coordination, pre-employment documentation, new hire support, and related follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, electronic files, and HRIS data related to new hires, job changes, terminations, required documentation, and compliance-related records
  • Partner with Payroll and Benefits to coordinate and process time-sensitive payroll, benefits, leave-related, unemployment, enrollment, and waiver documentation; educate team members on available benefits and enrollment requirements; answer frontline benefits-related questions; and monitor completion of required benefits documentation within established timelines.
  • Prepare, maintain, audit, and interpret HR reports, statistical summaries, and documentation required for internal reporting, management review, CARF, KDADS, DOT, ISO, and compliance audits.
  • Respond to internal and external HR-related requests, including employment verifications, audits, agency inquiries, compliance documentation, and other stakeholder information needs.
  • Support ISO certification requirements, CARF compliance, organizational audit readiness, and internal compliance expectations.
  • Assist with HR projects, training, orientation, reporting, process improvement initiatives, research, and special assignments as directed by the Director of Human Resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, ethical conduct, and compliance with Goodwill policies when handling employee and organizational information.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answer routine HR-related questions from employees, managers, applicants, and external contacts, and route complex or sensitive matters to the appropriate HR team member when needed.
  • Assist managers with timely completion of HR documentation, follow-up items, performance management reminders, employment processes, and required employee-related forms.
  • Track and monitor assigned HR tasks, deadlines, and follow-up items related to onboarding, benefits documentation, employee changes, compliance needs, audits, and department requests.
  • Prepare correspondence, forms, reports, summaries, file documents, and other materials needed to support HR operations, employee files, audits, and stakeholder requests.
  • Maintain organized electronic records and assist with file audits, data cleanup, document retention, and accurate entry or update of employee information in HR systems.
  • Coordinate with Payroll, Benefits, Operations, Compliance, and other internal departments to gather information, resolve documentation needs, and support timely completion of HR-related processes.
  • Assist with recruitment and onboarding logistics, including scheduling, communication, documentation follow-up, pre-employment process support, and new hire file completion.
  • Support benefits-related administration by helping monitor enrollment or waiver documentation, answering routine questions, and directing employees to appropriate resources when needed.
  • Assist with preparation and organization of audit materials, compliance documentation, HR reports, statistical summaries, and other records needed for internal and external review.
  • Support assigned HR projects and initiatives by coordinating project tasks, tracking action items, preparing materials, communicating with stakeholders, and helping ensure deadlines are met.
  • Assist the Director of Human Resources with research, reporting, compliance follow-up, special projects, and other department priorities as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, organization, and timely follow-through when handling employee information, HR records, department communications, and assigned responsibilities.
  • Support Goodwill’s mission, safety policies, compliance program, and commitment to accessibility, health, and well-being for employees and clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
