In this role, you will support automation and controls projects by developing detailed mechanical designs, fabrication drawings, assembly documentation, and equipment layouts that enable the successful delivery of engineered automation solutions. You will work closely with controls engineers, project engineers, manufacturing teams, and customers to support projects from concept development through installation and commissioning. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of mechanical design, automation technology, instrumentation, and manufacturing while supporting innovative solutions for customers throughout North America. 

 
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
 
  • Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings using CAD design tools.
  • Design and develop custom automation equipment, instrumentation mounting systems, sensor assemblies, brackets, supports, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Create tubing, piping, installation, and equipment layout drawings that support automation and control systems.
  • Develop equipment bills of materials (BOMs), fabrication packages, assembly instructions, and engineering documentation.
  • Support system integration activities involving sensors, instrumentation, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, motors, pumps, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLCs, DCS systems, and operator interface equipment.
  • Interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation drawings to ensure accurate design integration.
  • Collaborate with controls engineers, project engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and customers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, safety evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support procurement activities through component selection, specification development, and technical reviews.
  • Coordinate with fabrication, assembly, and field installation teams to resolve design and integration issues.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, revision control, and design records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist with equipment startup, installation support, and commissioning activities when required.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, machine design, industrial automation, or related engineering environments.
  • Experience developing detailed fabrication drawings, mechanical assemblies, and installation packages.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment, instrumentation, sensors, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems.
  • Understanding of GD&T principles and engineering drawing standards.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 15% within North America, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with PLC, DCS, SCADA, or HMI-based systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic motion control systems and pneumatic control systems.
  • Experience supporting equipment installation, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of machine safety standards including ANSI, ISO, OSHA, and NFPA 79 requirements.
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Exposure to PDM or PLM systems for engineering document management.
  • Experience with 3D scanning technologies and reverse engineering applications.
