POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Deputy Treasurer I

Department: Treasurer/ Public Trustee

 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective

Date: January 1, 2022


POSITION SUMMARY: Assists the Treasurer with collecting, tracking and distributing monies received by the Treasurer’s Office


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or peripheral duties that may be required. Rio Blanco County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. 

â–ª Collects and balances tax payments, processes redemptions, certifies and tracks Certificates of Taxes due and issues checks for overpayments and redemptions

â–ª Assists with preparation and support for the yearly Tax Lien Sale

â–ª Balances monies receipted and disbursed monthly. Maintains spreadsheet of credit card reports.

â–ª Generates miscellaneous cash receipts from entities and customers

â–ª Assists customers, answers telephone and e-mail and disseminates information

â–ª Assumes the duties of Clerk if position is open.


OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

â–ª Notifies taxpayers of current taxes and delinquencies.

â–ª Receipts over the counter citation payments as necessary

â–ª Generates Tax Lien sales advertising lists for publication

â–ª Mails or hand delivers payroll and payables checks

▪ Processes Treasurer’s Deeds at the request of the Chief Deputy

â–ª Maintains written General Ledger and generates semiannual reports

▪ Maintains records setting up new year files and destroying files not required to keep according to State Archives List – notifies State Archives of files destroyed

â–ª Updates the departmental website


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of: 

â–ª Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word


Skill in:

â–ª Operation of computer, keyboard, mouse, 10-Key calculator, telephone, copier and other standard office equipment


Abilities:

â–ª Ability to learn and successfully use specialized software applications

â–ª Ability to perform mathematical computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and fractions quickly and accurately

â–ª Detail oriented, professional manner and reliable

â–ª Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

â–ª Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a variety of individuals

â–ª Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of department records

â–ª Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment

â–ª Display perseverance when faced with unexpected obstacles


Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

â–ª High School Diploma. Advanced education preferred

▪ One year of experience in the Treasurer’s Office or related field


Licenses or Certificates:

â–ª Must be bondable

▪ Valid Colorado Driver’s


 License Physical Demands:

â–ª While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, speak and hear, see at close vision and bend to file and maintain files.


Work Environment:

â–ª Work is performed in a normal office environment


Other:

â–ª Attend seminars or training in or out of county
