The Wheaton College Facilities Department is seeking dependable and hardworking students to join our Grounds and Event Services Second Shift Crew in temporary part-time positions.
This position is specifically designed to support evening campus operations. Student employees will work alongside the full-time Second Shift Lead, helping complete event setups and teardowns, respond to evening Facilities needs, and prepare campus spaces for the following day.
Key ResponsibilitiesEvent Setup & Teardown
- Set up and break down tables, chairs, staging, furniture, and other equipment for campus events.
- Complete evening event teardowns and room resets.
- Prepare spaces for events scheduled for the following morning or day.
- Assist with deliveries and movement of furniture, equipment, and event resources.
- Support athletic events, special programs, and major campus events.
Grounds & Facilities Support
- Assist with trash pickup and outdoor waste management.
- Perform general groundskeeping and outdoor work as needed.
- Assist with seasonal grounds projects and campus cleanup.
- Support the full-time Second Shift Lead with other Facilities needs that arise during evening operations.
- Must be available to work 20–30 hours per week.
- Typical shifts begin at 3:00 p.m. and end between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m.
- Must be available to work all major campus events.
- Evening and weekend work will be required based on the campus event schedule.
- Applicants should be able to maintain consistent weekly availability throughout the semester.
- Scheduling will be coordinated around class schedules while meeting the required weekly hours and event coverage.
- Current Wheaton College student.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Able to consistently commit to 20–30 hours per week.
- Able and willing to work all major campus events, including evenings and weekends when required.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team under the direction of the full-time Second Shift Lead.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work involving bending, kneeling, walking, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Able to follow event diagrams, setup instructions, and work assignments.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- No previous Grounds or Event Services experience required—training will be provided.
- Gain hands-on experience in event operations, facilities, and groundskeeping.
- Work directly with an experienced full-time Second Shift Lead.
- Develop skills in teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and event logistics.
- Play an important role in the successful execution of major Wheaton College events.
- Be part of the team responsible for preparing campus spaces for classes, meetings, athletics, conferences, and special programs.
