Position Summary

Waukegan Steel is seeking an experienced Quality Control Manager to lead our company-wide quality control program and continuous improvement initiatives. Reporting directly to the President, this position is responsible for maintaining compliance with AISC certifications, welding quality standards, and customer requirements while supporting operational excellence throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve the company's quality control program.
  • Maintain compliance with AISC certifications, including BU, IBR, FCE, and SPE-P2.
  • Manage internal and external audits and ensure adherence to certification requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures and documentation.
  • Perform welder qualifications and maintain welding procedures and records.
  • Ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5 code requirements.
  • Investigate quality issues, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, and project teams to ensure quality standards are achieved.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in a Quality Management role for an AISC-certified fabricator.
  • Strong interest and experience in the structural steel fabrication and miscellaneous metals industry.
  • Strong knowledge of AISC certification requirements (BU, IBR, FCE, SPE-P2) and the associated audit process.
  • Extensive knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5 code requirements.
  • Experience performing welder qualifications and maintaining welding procedures.
  • Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate priorities, allocate resources, and meet deadlines.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
