Position: Power Scholars P/T  Group Leader           Salary: $18.40 per hour   
 

About the Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking a Part-Time Group Leader to support the daily operations of its before- and after-school program at Seaton Elementary School, serving children in PreK-3, PreK-4, and Kindergarten.

The Group Leader works with the Senior Group Leader to implement engaging, age-appropriate activities, maintain a safe and positive environment, and build strong relationships with children, families, and school staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operation of the before- and after-school program.
  • Help plan and implement age-appropriate activities and lesson plans.
  • Establish classroom routines, expectations, and positive behavior guidelines.
  • Supervise children and maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.
  • Follow emergency and safety procedures as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and school staff.
  • Participate in parent/child events as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized classroom and ensure supplies and equipment are available.
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Group Leader and program staff.

Schedule

Monday–Friday | 3:00 PM–6:00 PM

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within 18 months of employment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Physical examination and TB skin test documentation required.
  • Must successfully complete applicable background and fingerprinting requirements.
  • Must meet state and local childcare licensing requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with children, families, and school staff.
  • Positive, creative, patient, and dependable approach to working with children.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to participate in games, sports, and physical activities with children.
  • Ability to lift at least 35 pounds.
  • Ability to actively supervise and monitor children.
