POSITION OVERVIEW
- The Electrical Estimator will analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and project documentation to prepare accurate time, cost, labor, material, and equipment estimates for electrical construction projects.
- The position will support bid preparation, project planning, subcontractor coordination, compliance, and successful handoff to project and field management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety & Risk Management
- Prepare bids with a safety-first mindset.
- Follow all company safety requirements and fleet driving policies.
- Review projects for applicable regulatory and safety requirements, including OSHA and NC DENR standards.
Bid Management & Estimating
- Track potential projects and coordinate the ordering of plans and specifications.
- Review drawings, specifications, and proposal documents to determine project scope.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and prepare questions for owner clarification.
- Assist with plan deposits, bid bonds, and bid proposal preparation.
- Develop bid strategies that meet applicable DBE/MBE/WBE requirements.
- Analyze pre-bid activities for regulatory and project compliance.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and specification reviews.
- Prepare accurate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overall project estimates.
- Develop subcontractor scopes of work.
- Coordinate utility locates and exploratory digging when required.
- Complete post-bid reviews.
- Lead project handoff meetings with project and field management.
PROJECT PLANNING & DOCUMENT CONTROL
- Prepare crew sheets with appropriate labor, equipment, and production requirements.
- Develop and maintain subcontractor and supplier lists.
- Develop project schedules to support completion on time and within budget.
- Create, update, and manage project schedules in coordination with General and Site Superintendents.
- Work with project teams and subcontractors to establish work plans, responsibilities, and scopes of authority.
- Monitor project quality control requirements.
- Participate in owner, subcontractor, and engineer meetings.
- Develop subcontractor and purchase order scopes.
- Support successful project closeout.
LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION
- Anticipate project challenges and develop practical, solution-focused responses.
- Maintain high professional and ethical standards.
- Coach, mentor, and train jobsite personnel as needed.
- Build strong working relationships with vendors, field personnel, subcontractors, and project management teams.
- Provide ongoing feedback and support to other estimators.
- Promote a collaborative, safety-focused work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS / IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in electrical estimating.
- Strong understanding of electrical construction estimating and project documentation.
- Ability to prepare detailed scopes of work.
- Experience with pricing, purchasing, negotiating, and preparing purchase orders for materials and equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and related office applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to plan, collaborate, prioritize, and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively with owners, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
- Strong commitment to safety and a “Safe Work or No Work” mindset.

- Regular interaction with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and owners.
- May require attendance at pre-bid meetings, project meetings, and jobsite visits.
- Must comply with applicable safety requirements and maintain a safe driving record.
- Work may involve construction site conditions and exposure to typical jobsite hazards.
