The Sections Financial Coordinator is a member of the Finance team and provides accounting and financial support to SAE sections and affiliated activities. An SAE section is a local or regional member-led group that supports SAE’s mission through technical, educational, networking, and community-based activities. You will perform transactional accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting support, and compliance activities while following established accounting policies and internal controls. In this role, you will partner with section leadership, volunteer treasurers, program staff, and other Finance team members to deliver accurate financial information, support sound decision-making, and maintain the integrity of section financial records.

Essential Functions

  • Onboard new and reactivated sections and teams to banking and credit card platforms, including account setup and support for section leaders and volunteer treasurers
  • Manage section banking and credit card platform issues, including authorized signer updates, fraud prevention tools, and other platform support needs
  • Process financial transactions and maintain accurate records for assigned sections
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures
  • Review and verify event registrations, payments, and related financial activity for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare recurring financial reports and analyses for section leadership, volunteer treasurers, and Finance management
  • Support monthly and year-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
  • Assists with budget development, forecasting, and financial planning activities for assigned sections
  • Participate in annual audit activities by preparing schedules, responding to auditor requests, and supporting compliance reviews
  • Provide guidance to section stakeholders regarding financial policies, procedures, and reporting requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in finance or accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial experience
  • Proficiency with accounting software, general ledger systems, and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including volunteer treasurers and section leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with NetSuite
  • Experience supporting non-profit or membership-based organizations is a plus
  • Knowledge of SAE International's structure, sections, and affiliated activities is beneficial
  • Experience with audit preparation and compliance activities preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and implement efficiency enhancements is a plus
