Summary

STP’s Engineering Internship Program provides engineering students with meaningful, challenging, and practical work experience in the commercial nuclear power industry. Interns have the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering projects while gaining exposure to plant systems, processes, and cross-functional teams.

Engineering interns work alongside experienced professionals and contribute to projects that support plant safety, reliability, performance, and continuous improvement. The program also provides opportunities for professional development, networking, mentorship, and increased understanding of careers within the nuclear energy industry.

 

Responsibilities

Engineering interns are assigned meaningful projects with defined objectives and performance expectations and work closely with their supervisor and assigned mentor throughout the internship.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Collecting, evaluating, and analyzing technical data and presenting findings, recommendations, and proposed solutions.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing engineering documentation, including calculations, specifications, analyses, drawings, evaluations, and design change packages.
  • Reviewing industry operating experience, technical documentation, and event reports to identify potential applicability to STP.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of engineering processes, tools, technologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Providing technical support to engineering and other plant organizations.
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and other departments to support plant safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Communicating technical information through written documentation, presentations, and discussions with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Participating in internship program activities, professional development opportunities, and assigned project presentations.
  • Complying with all STP policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

 

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university and pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Nuclear Engineering, or another engineering discipline applicable to STP's business needs.
  • Must be in good academic standing with the college or university.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
