Job DetailsJob Location: Vincennes, IN 47591Job Summary The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe movement of lumber and treated wood products from inventory to production and back to inventory. This position supplies production departments with material according to the production schedule, moves finished goods to the yard or warehouse, and maintains accurate paperwork and production records. The Forklift Operator supports the safe, accurate, and timely flow of product before and after treating and production. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Moves material from inventory to production and from production back to inventory according to the production schedule Moves material in process from one station to another as needed Moves finished goods from the production area to the finished goods yard or warehouse Bands, wraps, and/or packs finished goods and labels material by type, size, and count Assists production with bottlenecks and other material needs Handles freshly treated material in accordance with safe-handling procedures and product Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Completes the pre-shift equipment inspection checklist and reports any problems or concerns before operating Performs general preventive maintenance on assigned equipment Maintains the rough material and finished goods inventory yards in an organized, clean, and hazard-free condition Records production accurately on production sheets and completes other records as required Follows all forklift rules, speed limits, load limits, and pedestrian-safety policies as described by Company policy Assists other work areas by moving material and loading/unloading trucks and material carts as needed Participates in safety, Continuous Improvement (CI), and other programs and meetings Performs other duties as required Qualifications Minimum 9th grade education; high school diploma/GED preferred but not required No minimum experience required; forklift, manufacturing, or lumber experience preferred Must successfully complete the Company forklift licensing process; current forklift certification is a plus Working knowledge of basic math and inventory practices preferred Must be at least 18 years of age Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and varying shifts as needed Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Sit and operate a forklift for the majority of the shift, with frequent mounting and dismounting Regularly lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs when banding, wrapping, tagging, or clearing material; occasionally handle heavier loads with assistance or equipment Frequently twist, turn, and look over the shoulder to maintain visibility while operating in reverse Frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull Stand and walk on uneven yard surfaces when not operating equipment Perform repetitive motions associated with banding, tagging, and material handling Work at a sustained pace consistent with production and shipping demands Work Environment Manufacturing / mill and treating-plant setting; includes indoor and outdoor work areas Exposure to varying weather conditions, seasonal temperatures, sawdust, vibration, and elevated noise levels Works in and around moving equipment, other forklifts, trucks, and material-handling machinery Potential exposure to wood-treatment chemicals; adherence to all safe-handling and PPE requirements is mandatory Required PPE: safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed/safety footwear, gloves, seat belt while operating, and any additional PPE required in treating areas per company policy and SDS Safety Commitment Safety is a core value at Doman.
