Job DetailsJob Location: VET - Vancouver, WA 98660Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $63,393.00 - $88,749.00 SalaryJob Shift: AnyJob Category: Distribution - ShippingThe Export Terminal Shift Supervisor (ETSS) I works with a crew to facilitate the movement of grain at the VET.  Under close supervision by the VET Production Manager, the ETSS I will oversee the receiving, storage, handling, blending and loading of grain.  In addition, this position will monitor the condition of the stored grain and supervise a crew for the maintenance and cleanliness of the grain facilities and equipment.  Each employee is responsible for their safe work behavior and the safety of their coworkers and crew.  Employees in this position will be required to maintain a positive, forthright attitude that promotes a collaborative, respectful, and diverse corporate culture, and conduct themselves in a professional and favorable manner.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs tasks in a safe manner in compliance with safety programs and procedures. Takes responsibility for own safe work behavior and assists in overseeing the safe work behavior of others. Provide courteous and responsive interaction with vendors, contractors, coworkers, and crews. Demonstrates teamwork and genuine respect for others. Maintain the elevator and facilities properly, safely, and with an emphasis on cleanliness through proper crew management. Provide courteous and responsive communications with a variety of entities including railroads, barge lines, ship agents and crews, longshoremen, contractors, WSDA, NQI, etc. Responsible for the unloading and proper binning of grain commodities by both rail and barge.  This includes all planning, coordination, monitoring, supervision, and communication involved with the unloading process. Responsible for ship loading to include proper blending to meet load order requirements and Company objectives. In addition, the shift supervisor is responsible for all planning, coordination, monitoring, supervision, and communication involved with the shipping process. Observe conveyor operations and monitor HMI’s to maintain specified operating levels and to detect equipment malfunctions.  Observes and listens to machinery operations to detect equipment malfunctions and informs others of equipment malfunctions that need to be addressed. QualificationsRequired Education and Experience High school diploma or GED degree and/or equivalent training required. 1 to 3 years of experience with elevator equipment and operations are required. Must have strong organizational and analytical skills and the ability to multitask, while maintaining high attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to see, hear, smell, and talk to prevent and communicate machinery malfunctions. Experience in a lead role providing oversight and delegation of tasks to employees. Must be computer literate with proven ability in the use of spreadsheets, database, and word-processing software applications within a Windows-based operating environment.  Knowledge of safety hazards and regulations associated with port and grain elevator facilities. Experience working with longshoremen and millwrights with an understanding of union rules and regulations preferred. Must have the ability to troubleshoot and quickly make decisions as new information is received. Must be an effective and respectful communicator both orally and in writing with employees and customers. Able to express or exchange ideas in English by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to customers and, public, and convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Able to understand and follow all safety guidelines. Ability to work flexible days and hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.   Physical Demands and Requirements This position can be physically strenuous from time to time and there will be exposure to grain dust.  Must be able to work in this environment.  You will be expected to be able to work in tight and confined spaces, walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, grip, grasp, push, and pull various tools and equipment. May be required to ride a belt lift and occasionally work at significant heights with requisite balance and equilibrium. Ability to frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more. This job will require the ability to ascend/descend ladders. Personal protective equipment, including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, and respiratory protection and ear protection are required. Requires the ability to read, write, and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies, and memos, and communicate clearly with your coworkers and supervisors. Must have vision that permits close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. When grading grain, the ability to identify and distinguish colors is also important. Ability to detect odors and the ability to understand and discern safety warning systems. This is a physical job that includes both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather/temperatures. Flexible with work hours - must be prepared to receive phone calls and respond to company-related needs at irregular times including nights, weekends, and holidays. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
