MCHC is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you’ll take primary responsibility for financial services functions for an assigned health center, including monthly close, financial reporting, and general ledger reconciliations. You’ll also support audits, budgeting, healthcare regulatory reporting, and manage grant accounting and reporting across multiple health centers.Â
What You’ll DoÂ
Monthly Close & Financial ReportingÂ
- Perform monthly balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliationsÂ
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and monthly draft financial statementsÂ
- Analyze and explain discrepancies between actual and budgeted resultsÂ
- Prepare and maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready financial workpapersÂ
- Review workpapers and accounting entries prepared by other staff, as assignedÂ
Audit, Budget & Regulatory ReportingÂ
- Support the annual fiscal audit and assist with annual budget preparationÂ
- Prepare and support required filings and reports, including Form 990, Welfare Forms, Business Property Statement Form 571-L, Medicare Cost Report, Medi-Cal PPS Reconciliation, UDS, and HCAI (OSHPD) reportingÂ
- Maintain supporting schedules, workpapers, and documentation to ensure accurate and timely reportingÂ
Grant Accounting & ReportingÂ
- Manage grant workbooks, track expenditures, and reconcile grant activity across multiple health centers Â
- Prepare and process grant drawdowns and support annual grant reporting Â
- Maintain accurate supporting financial documentation for grant activityÂ
Analysis & Team SupportÂ
- Prepare periodic and ad hoc financial reports and analyses to support operational and organizational needsÂ
- Research discrepancies and assist with resolving accounting and reporting issuesÂ
- Collaborate with Finance team members and other departments to support financial reportingÂ
- Cross-train to provide backup support for accounting functions across CFS clinics as neededÂ

Requirements
- Â Four-year college degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; or five years or more of related accounting experience.Â
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, monthly close, and financial statement preparation.Â
- Experience with grant accounting in a nonprofit or healthcare setting, including grant expenditure tracking, reconciliations, drawdowns, and reporting.Â
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working with financial spreadsheets and workbooks.Â
- Experience supporting financial audits and maintaining accurate, audit-ready documentation.Â
Preferred Qualifications:Â
- Experience with healthcare financial or regulatory reporting, including Medicare Cost Reports, Medi-Cal PPS Reconciliation, UDS, HCAI (OSHPD), Form 990, or similar government or regulatory reporting.Â
- Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and budget-to-actual variance analysis.Â
- Knowledge and experience with major accounting applications.Â
- Experience working with healthcare practice management systems.Â
- Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) experience.Â
