Director of Operations - Environmental Services

Reports To: President / CEO

Location: Cresson, TX

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Position Summary

The Director of Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing all operational functions of the company to ensure safe, efficient, profitable, and scalable performance. This role provides leadership for field operations, project execution, resource allocation, budgeting, P&L management, process improvement, and strategic growth initiatives.

The successful candidate will develop and implement systems, processes, and performance metrics that support sustainable growth while maintaining exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and financial performance. This leader will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and play a critical role in shaping the future of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Direct daily operations across all service lines and field activities.
  • Develop operational strategies that support company objectives and growth goals.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on budget, and on schedule.
  • Optimize workforce utilization, equipment deployment, and operational resources.
  • Drive accountability throughout the organization through clear performance expectations.

Financial Management

  • Own operational budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Manage departmental and company-level P&L performance.
  • Monitor revenue, margins, labor costs, equipment costs, and overall profitability.
  • Develop and implement job costing and project tracking systems.
  • Identify and execute cost-reduction and efficiency initiatives.
  • Support annual strategic planning and financial goal development.

Systems & Process Development

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve operational systems and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and operational dashboards.
  • Create scalable workflows that support growth and consistency across the organization.
  • Implement process improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ensure effective utilization of ERP, CRM, fleet management, and reporting systems.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop managers, supervisors, and operational staff.
  • Build a culture focused on accountability, safety, customer service, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Human Resources to recruit, retain, and develop high-performing talent.
  • Conduct performance reviews and succession planning initiatives.

Growth & Strategic Execution

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute growth strategies.
  • Evaluate operational capacity and infrastructure requirements for expansion.
  • Support acquisitions, integrations, and new service offerings as needed.
  • Ensure operational readiness to meet evolving customer and market demands.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a culture of safety and regulatory compliance throughout all operations.
  • Partner with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) leadership to ensure adherence to applicable regulations and company standards.
  • Monitor incident trends and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Customer Experience

  • Work closely with sales and account management teams to ensure service excellence.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and operational performance metrics.
  • Resolve escalated operational issues and support key client relationships.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, Environmental Services, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • MBA preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive operational leadership experience.
  • 5+ years managing multi-location or field-service operations.
  • Proven experience with P&L ownership and budget management.
  • Demonstrated success implementing operational systems and scalable processes.
  • Experience leading organizations through periods of growth and change.
  • Environmental services, industrial services, waste management, construction services, utility services, remediation, or related industry experience strongly preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong financial acumen and business management skills.
  • Expert knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience developing KPI dashboards and performance scorecards.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Process improvement and change management expertise.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience with ERP, CRM, scheduling, and fleet management systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Project Management certifications are a plus.
