Operations Technician - SPC Plant Addison

SPC is currently seeking candidates for an Operations Technician position to operate and maintain GE 7FA Dual Fuel Gas Turbines at a peaking facility in Thomaston, GA. The plant consists of 4 combustion turbine units at 167 megawatts each, with a combined nameplate capacity of 668 megawatts.

Qualifications include: 

  • Operations and maintenance (including instrumentation and controls as well) of a dual-fuel simple cycle site within all compliance and safety guidelines.  
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, controls, and electrical systems, while also completing repairs as necessary are required. This includes digital control system & circuits, power circuits, and control devices on plant equipment outside the control room. 
  • Manage the inventory of parts and supplies for the plant control system. 
  • Maintain plant maintenance records in a computer-based work order system (Maximo). 
  • Participate in the plant maintenance program as a system owner.   
  • Must successfully pass the TECH test.
  • Must be able to pass the Ops Tech test to progress to a fully qualified Operations Technician.

Job Experience 

  • Minimum of two years experience in the operation and maintenance of gas turbine power plants preferred. 
  • Experience with digital control systems, PLC's, GE 7FA Mark VI, CEMS, and Delta V Control System desired.   

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Must be able to operate and troubleshoot complex systems. 
  • Knowledge of plant control and data acquisition systems desired. 
  • Must have good problem solving and analytical skills necessary to determine current / future operating conditions and trends for optimizing plant performance. 
  • Must have superior interpersonal skills, proven written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently and as an effective team member. 
  • Knowledge of GE 7FA combustion turbine operations in both simple & combined cycle plant operations is desired.

  • Must be able to work well in a small team environment and keep the success of the group as a high priority, only second to safety.  
  • Must be able to support a 24/7 schedule, including holiday, back shift, and call out work when necessary.

Education

  • 2-Year College/Technical Degree with a minimum of two years of experience, or four years experience in power generation desired.   

Other Requirements 

  • Successful completion of the TECH - Technician Occupations aptitude test for Operations Technicians.
  • The successful candidate will be required to travel periodically to attend offsite meetings and to assist other SPC facilities.
