Position Summary

Tampa Family Health Centers is seeking a Referral Specialist to support the coordination, scheduling, and follow-up of patient referrals generated by primary care providers.

This role ensures timely processing of referrals, maintains accurate documentation, and partners with clinical and administrative teams to support continuity of care and patient access to specialty services. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Process and schedule patient referrals in a timely manner based on urgency
  • Track and follow up on referrals to ensure completion and compliance
  • Maintain accurate referral logs and documentation in the EHR
  • Collaborate with providers, case managers, and external partners on referral coordination
  • Verify patient eligibility and assist with referral-related documentation
  • Communicate referral status updates to providers and care teams
  • Support patients with referral education and next steps
  • Assist with urgent referrals and department calls as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 1 year of referral, patient access, or healthcare administrative experience
  • Previous medical front desk or insurance verification experience preferred



Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • High attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with EHR systems and Microsoft Office preferred
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines

Please note that the employee’s initial training schedule may differ from the regular schedule of the position. All new hires, including part-time employees, must be available for up to 40 hours of in-person, on-site training during their first week. Additional mandatory training may continue for approximately two to three weeks, depending on the position and training requirements. Training may take place at a TFHC location other than the employee’s assigned work location.
