JOB SUMMARY 

The PR/Communications team within the University of St. Thomas Marketing, Insights and Communications department is seeking a creative student to help expand the visual and digital storytelling of the St. Thomas Newsroom. 

The Digital Design & Multimedia Assistant will create graphics, interactive infographics, visual assets and other digital content for Newsroom stories, newsletters and multimedia projects. We are especially interested in a student who can help us think beyond traditional photos and text and bring fresh ideas for interactive and visual storytelling.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Create graphics for Newsroom stories, newsletters and digital communications. 
  • Develop social graphics, illustrations, infographics and data visualizations. 
  • Help develop interactive graphics and/or animations, video thumbnails, and other digital elements for articles and multimedia projects. 
  • Crop, resize and optimize images for digital publication. 
  • Create and organize Newsroom photo and video galleries. 
  • Develop Canva templates and presentation assets. 
  • Collaborate with Communications staff on creative approaches to digital storytelling. 
  • Assist with uploading content to WordPress.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in graphic design, digital media, visual communication or related creative work. 
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable design tools. 
  • Strong visual judgment and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to collaborate, meet deadlines and respond to creative feedback. 
  • Graphic Design, Emerging Media, Digital Media Arts, web design, UX/UI and related majors are especially encouraged to apply, but students from any major with appropriate skills are welcome. 
  • Motion graphics, animation, data visualization, interactive design or web skills are a plus but not required. 
  • Applicants should be prepared to share examples of design, visual or multimedia work. (Link to portfolio/samples welcome at time of application.) 

 

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
