Employment Type: Full-Time

About BoxHouse

BoxHouse designs and delivers innovative, high-quality products through a global manufacturing network. We partner closely with overseas manufacturers—primarily in China—to scale production while maintaining rigorous quality, cost, and delivery standards. We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer / Quality Engineer to serve as a key technical and quality liaison between BoxHouse and our overseas suppliers.

Position Summary

This role is responsible for ensuring manufacturing excellence and product quality across BoxHouse’s China-based suppliers. You will lead process development, quality planning, supplier audits, and continuous improvement initiatives, working directly with factory engineering and quality teams to ensure products are built to specification, on time, and at scale.

This is a highly visible role requiring strong technical judgment, clear communication across cultures, and the ability to solve problems directly on the factory floor.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Support new product introduction (NPI) from prototype through mass production at overseas factories

  • Review and approve manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and work instructions

  • Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews with suppliers

  • Identify process risks and implement corrective actions to improve yield, efficiency, and throughput

  • Support capacity planning, line balancing, and production ramp-up activities

Quality Engineering

  • Develop and implement quality plans including control plans, PFMEA, inspection criteria, and test protocols

  • Define and enforce incoming, in-process, and final inspection standards

  • Lead root cause analysis (8D, Fishbone, 5 Whys) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)

  • Manage supplier quality issues, deviations, and non-conformances

  • Conduct supplier audits and ongoing performance assessments

  • Support PPAP / FAI approval processes as required

Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary technical and quality interface between BoxHouse and overseas manufacturers

  • Communicate expectations clearly and resolve issues quickly across language and cultural barriers

  • Partner with design, sourcing, and operations teams to support product lifecycle improvements

  • Provide clear reporting on quality metrics, risks, and corrective actions

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or quality engineering

  • Direct experience working with overseas (China) contract manufacturers

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and inspection methods

  • Experience with NPI, production ramp-up, and supplier quality management

  • Ability to travel internationally (China) as needed

Preferred

  • Experience with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or similar quality systems

  • Familiarity with PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and control plans

  • Experience in consumer products, building products, or engineered assemblies

  • Mandarin language skills (not required, but a plus)

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Hands-on problem solver with strong factory-floor presence

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Comfortable working independently in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

  • Strong attention to detail balanced with a pragmatic, production-focused mindset

  • Ability to build strong supplier relationships while enforcing standards
