About Cascadience & Volio

Cascadience, a VIABILITY Company, is developing Volio, an innovative AI-powered digital companion designed to support neurodivergent individuals, including people with ADHD, Autism, and Anxiety.

Volio is evolving into an engaging student companion that combines AI-powered support, intelligent scheduling, long-term memory, and gamified experiences to help reduce cognitive overload, support executive functioning, and promote greater independence.

Unlike traditional productivity applications or generic chatbots, Volio combines a sophisticated multi-agent AI "smart digital team" with an engaging student experience. Students can unlock and upgrade personal spaces by completing real-world tasks, participating in learning modules, checking into classes, and building positive habits.

This is a unique opportunity to join a startup initiative backed by a 56-year established organization. As we prepare for our major public product launch, we are seeking a visionary and perceptive Product UI/UX Designer to join our core team and help shape the entire product experience.

The ideal candidate will balance a calm, low-sensory interface that respects cognitive load with thoughtful, motivating gamification that makes the experience engaging without becoming overwhelming.

Position Summary

The Product UI/UX Designer will lead the design and evolution of Volio's user experience across mobile platforms. This position will translate complex AI functionality, scheduling systems, conversational workflows, and gamification mechanics into intuitive, accessible, and human-centered experiences.

The Designer will work closely with Product, AI Engineers, Developers, Operations, Marketing, and external partners to develop experiences that are visually engaging, accessible, and aligned with Volio's neurodivergent-first design philosophy.

The company will provide all required work equipment, including a computer and cell phone.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Neurodivergent-First UX Design & Architecture

  • Design intuitive, low-sensory user flows that reduce cognitive load, address time blindness, and help minimize sensory overwhelm for users with ADHD, Autism, and AuDHD.
  • Develop experiences that prioritize clarity, predictability, accessibility, and ease of use.
  • Establish and maintain design guardrails that minimize unnecessary cognitive effort, including:
    • Avoiding requests for users to re-enter information the system already knows.
    • Creating adaptive experiences that can respond appropriately to user energy and engagement levels.
    • Designing transparent AI touchpoints that communicate functionality without unnecessary technical complexity.
  • Apply principles of cognitive accessibility and inclusive design throughout the product experience.

Gamification & Island Home Progression

  • Design the user experience and visual interface for Volio's lightweight 2D Island Home progression experience.
  • Utilize native UI components, Lottie animations, and clean vector-based layouts to create an engaging but low-stress visual environment.
  • Develop rewarding feedback loops that connect real-world student habits with meaningful visual progression.
  • Design experiences where accomplishments such as completing assignments, finishing learning modules, or attending classes can result in visual upgrades and progression within the Island Home environment.
  • Create motivating experiences that encourage engagement without relying on anxiety-inducing or addictive design patterns.

Conversational & Dashboard Interfaces

  • Design clean, intuitive conversational interfaces for Volio's multi-agent AI system.
  • Develop user experiences supporting task extraction, emotional check-ins, calendar scheduling, and related workflows.
  • Translate complex AI processes and backend functionality into simple, understandable user experiences.
  • Design clear visual states for the Two-Phase Task Lifecycle, including:
    • Draft
    • Confirmed
    • Scheduled
  • Ensure users maintain a sense of control and understanding of their schedules without feeling overwhelmed by complexity.

Prototyping, Design Systems & Cross-Platform Execution

  • Create comprehensive design systems, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes using Figma.
  • Develop designs optimized for cross-platform native mobile implementation across iOS and Android.
  • Establish reusable UI components and design standards that support consistency and scalability.
  • Provide clear design specifications and Lottie animation requirements for development.
  • Collaborate closely with AI Engineers and Developers to ensure designs translate effectively into mobile frameworks.
  • Participate in rapid design iterations and product refinement throughout the development process.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional product design experience, preferably with a focus on mobile applications for iOS and Android.
  • Demonstrated experience designing products involving complex data, AI-driven workflows, or similarly complex systems.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards, including WCAG, with demonstrated experience applying principles of cognitive accessibility and inclusive design.
  • Demonstrated understanding of designing for neurodivergent users and low-stimulus environments.
  • Portfolio demonstrating experience creating engaging, lightweight progression systems, reward mechanics, or similar engagement experiences.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts—including AI workflows, multi-agent systems, calendar logic, and contextual memory—into simple, calm, and human-centered experiences.
  • Advanced proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools, particularly Figma.
  • Experience with or understanding of Lottie animation specifications and vector-based design.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive projects and execute effectively without direct authority.
  • High level of reliability, accountability, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to mission-driven work and creating technology that supports individuals in reducing stress, managing executive functioning challenges, and achieving greater independence.
