JOB SUMMARY

The Scope Processor ensures that all scopes, instruments, and tools are properly cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized prior to patient use. This role includes equipment inspection, proper handling of sterilization systems, stocking supplies, and supporting clinical staff with basic patient care tasks. The Scope Processor plays a critical role in maintaining patient safety through strict adherence to infection control and sterilization protocols.

  

RESPONSIBILITIES


Sterilization & Scope Processing

  • Operate and maintain steam autoclaves, documenting load contents, cycles completed, and maintenance activities.
  • Clean and decontaminate medical equipment, scopes, and instruments.
  • Prepare and package instruments for sterilization and record sterilizer test results.
  • Follow personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements according to department policy.
  • Organize and assemble routine and specialty surgical trays and fulfill special requests as needed.


Equipment Inspection & Quality Control

  • Inspect instruments for leaks, worn or loose parts, or signs of damage.
  • Monitor equipment gauges, dials, and indicators to ensure proper operation.
  • Report defective or malfunctioning equipment promptly to the appropriate personnel.


Safety & Compliance

  • Wear appropriate protective equipment (e.g., safety shoes, gloves, glasses) to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Adhere to infection control policies, sterile technique guidelines, and clinic protocols.


Clinic Support

  • Stock supplies as needed.
  • Assist clinical staff by obtaining vital signs and escorting patients during visits.
  • Clean exam rooms and common areas as required.


Fiscal Responsibility

  • Use equipment and supplies prudently to support cost-effective clinic operations.


Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements

  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique, and basic clinical safety precautions
  • Ability to use and apply medical terminology appropriately
  • Understanding of general clinical principles, workflow, and outcome measures
  • Administrative skills needed to support clinic operations
  • Physical ability to stand up to 8 hours, bend, reach, squat, kneel, move, and lift up to 20 lbs.
