The Awesome Things You’ll D

 

  • Receive and process incoming jewelry items, verifying item counts/weight against intake information 

  • Inspect jewelry for condition, craftsmanship, and completeness (clasps, stones, findings, engravings, hallmarks) 

  • Use testing tools (e.g., electronic gold/metal testers, acid testing kits, diamond/moissanite testers, refractometers, loupes) to determine metal purity (karat/fineness) and identify gemstone type and authenticity 

  • Record test results accurately in inventory management or point-of-sale systems 

  • Photograph jewelry items using standardized lighting setups and equipment to produce clear, consistent, catalog-ready images 

  • Edit photos per company style guidelines 

 

  • Weigh items and measure stones/metals as needed for pricing or appraisal support 

  • Tag, label, and organize processed items for storage, display, or shipment 

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the processing/testing workstation 

  • Flag questionable, counterfeit, or damaged items to a supervisor or senior appraiser 

  • Follow all safety protocols when handling testing chemicals (e.g., nitric/hydrochloric acid solutions) and equipment 

  • Maintain strict security procedures around high-value inventory 

  • Protect and secure company assets: product, donations, tools, and systems 

 

Activities are subject to change / be added to meet business needs with management approval. 

 

Our Must Haves

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity 

  • Comfortable using small tools, testing equipment, and digital cameras 

  • Basic computer skills (data entry, email, inventory software) 

  • Ability to stand/sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks 

  • Trustworthy and able to pass a background check  

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in jewelry, retail, pawn, or appraisal environments  

  • Familiarity with gemstone identification or metal testing methods (acid testing, XRF analyzers, electronic testers)  

  • Experience with product photography and lighting  

  • Knowledge of jewelry hallmarks, karat systems, and common gemstone characteristics  

  • Coursework or certification in gemology (e.g., GIA) is a plus, but not required 

 

Special Working Conditions

 

  • Fine motor skills for handling small/delicate items 

  • Normal or corrected vision sufficient for detailed inspection work 

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
