What You’ll Do

As our Payroll & Benefits Specialist, you’ll help ensure employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting the day-to-day administration of employee benefits.

This is a detail-focused role with plenty of variety — payroll processing, audits, employee questions, benefit changes, reporting, system maintenance, and process improvement.

Payroll Administration

You’ll:

  • Process accurate and timely biweekly payroll
  • Review and audit time records, pay rates, differentials, overtime, premium pay, and other earnings
  • Process payroll changes related to:
    • New hires
    • Promotions
    • Transfers
    • Compensation adjustments
    • Retroactive pay
    • Leaves
    • Terminations
  • Ensure accurate deductions for benefits, retirement contributions, flexible spending accounts, and other voluntary deductions
  • Process garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, wage assignments, and other required payroll deductions
  • Process final paychecks in accordance with applicable requirements
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies
  • Respond to employee payroll questions clearly and professionally
  • Maintain complete payroll records and supporting documentation
  • Support compliance with federal and state payroll laws, wage-and-hour requirements, payroll tax requirements, and organizational policies
  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, W-2s, audits, and reporting
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc payroll reports
  • Work closely with Finance on payroll-related reconciliations
  • Support managers with timekeeping and payroll approvals

Benefits Administration Support

You’ll also work closely with the HR Manager to support employee benefits.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with new-hire benefit enrollments
  • Processing qualifying life event changes and benefit terminations
  • Maintaining accurate benefit elections and payroll deductions
  • Supporting employees with routine questions about:
    • Eligibility
    • Enrollment
    • Benefit changes
    • Payroll deductions
  • Assisting with annual open enrollment
  • Tracking outstanding employee elections
  • Supporting benefit billing reconciliation
  • Auditing deductions and identifying discrepancies
  • Maintaining accurate benefit records
  • Assisting with vendor communication and follow-up
  • Supporting benefit-related reporting and audits

HRIS & Systems

If you enjoy working with systems and data, this is an important part of the role.

You’ll:

  • Maintain accurate payroll, employee, compensation, and benefit information
  • Work within ADP Workforce Now, Paycom, Employee Navigator, or comparable HRIS/payroll systems
  • Maintain assigned earnings codes, deduction codes, and payroll data fields
  • Perform regular data audits
  • Identify and correct discrepancies
  • Assist with system testing and updates
  • Troubleshoot routine system issues
  • Help maintain data integrity across HR, payroll, and benefits systems
  • Create and maintain procedures, checklists, and payroll documentation
  • Recommend practical improvements that increase accuracy and efficiency

✅ What You’ll Need

Required / Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of payroll processing or payroll-related experience
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred
  • Experience processing payroll for a multi-department organization preferred
  • Experience supporting payroll for 200+ employees preferred
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Paycom, or a comparable payroll/HRIS system
  • Working knowledge of federal and state wage-and-hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and payroll best practices
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organization and time-management skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when working with employee and payroll information
