About the Role:

The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing direct care and assistance under the supervision of clinical staff. This position focuses on implementing treatment plans, conducting clinical assessments, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in various behavioral health settings. The technician is responsible for crisis intervention and management, helping to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support during episodes of emotional or behavioral distress. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate and thorough clinical documentation to support continuity of care and discharge planning. Ultimately, the Behavioral Health Technician contributes to improving patient outcomes by fostering a therapeutic environment and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in behavioral health or related field preferred.
  • Experience in mental health or behavioral health settings, including direct patient care.
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation standards and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Basic understanding of crisis management and intervention techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Behavioral Health Technician or equivalent credential.
  • Experience working with pediatric or adolescent populations with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED).
  • Training in specialized therapeutic modalities such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or trauma-informed care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional coursework or certification in mental health first aid or crisis prevention.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting clinical assessments and monitoring patient behavior to inform treatment plans.
  • Provide direct patient care, including support with daily living activities and therapeutic interventions.
  • Implement crisis intervention techniques to manage and de-escalate behavioral emergencies effectively.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and execute individualized discharge plans.
  • Support patients with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED) by applying specialized care strategies.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by adhering to facility policies and safety protocols.

Skills:

The required skills such as clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for ensuring continuity of care and legal compliance in daily operations. Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are applied regularly to respond promptly and effectively to behavioral emergencies, ensuring patient and staff safety. Clinical assessments and mental health knowledge enable the technician to monitor patient progress and communicate relevant information to the care team. Developing and supporting discharge plans requires coordination and communication skills to facilitate smooth transitions for patients. Overall, these skills combine to allow the Behavioral Health Technician to provide compassionate, competent, and comprehensive care in a dynamic clinical environment.
