UnityPoint-St. Luke's

Hours: Days-Full-time

 

Provides and coordinates nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership when working with other health team members to establish and maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Participates in unit-based shared leadership activities that improve the quality of care provided to patients and enhance the work environment.  Assumes responsibility for nursing practice within area of responsibility.  Plans and implements best practices within area including new initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for operational and capital budget development, monitoring, analysis, and variance reporting.
  • Assumes accountability for the orientation plans of new employees and the annual competency plans for staff; aligns plans with unit goals and desired outcomes.
  • Creates overall plan and goals for department orientation plans as needed to assure successful integration of the employee into the organization.
  • Establishes departmental goals which are aligned with the strategic goals and plan of the organization; continuously monitors of progress toward goals.
  • Analyzes care provided within area of responsibility from a systems perspective. Collaborates with other leaders to improve care coordination between areas and levels of care.
  • Facilitates discussion on career planning and personal development with all staff. Works collaboratively with staff to create and execute a personal development plans as a retention strategy.
  • Serves as a mentor and role model for staff, students and colleagues.
  • Remains up to date on issues and trends in nursing and healthcare to continually elevate professional practice in the department and organization.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must have completed an accredited nursing program and possess a valid nursing license for the state of Iowa.
  • Minimum of BSN and 5 years Department leadership experience.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Completed Basic Certified Life Support certification prior to hire, completion of the unit based course, “Management of patients receiving chemotherapy”, upon 1 year from hire, and annually thereafter, 1 hour of stroke education to be completed by the end of orientation and then bi-annually thereafter.

 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals. 
  • Must be able to meet the competency of unit assigned to and also be able to successfully complete orientation.
  • Ability to move and lift patients and use appropriate equipment.
  • Must legally perform the essential functions of the job in accordance with the nurse practice act, able to demonstrate the necessary skills and competencies to include medication administration and nursing competencies.
  • Ability to document information accurately.
  • Effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written).
  • Able to read, write, comprehend and speak English.
