Qualification Highlights
- Minimum 4 years of industrial pipe welding experience.
- Must possess all required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position.
- Must own and provide a fully operational welding rig and all required welding tools.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must successfully pass a site-specific weld test or possess a current applicable Zachry welding certification.
Position Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality pipe welding using GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (Stick) processes.
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome, and other specialty alloy piping systems.
- Select equipment and plan layouts, assembly methods, and welding procedures.
- Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, specifications, and welding procedures.
- Lay out, fit, align, assemble, and weld piping components.
- Bolt, clamp, and tack weld components in preparation for final welding.
- Perform pipe repairs, modifications, and replacements on industrial systems.
- Assist Pipefitters with pipe installation, fabrication, and material preparation when not actively welding.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards and project specifications.
- Identify required equipment, materials, and welding processes for assigned tasks.
- Recognize and address safety hazards before work begins.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Follow all company, client, and site safety requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience welding industrial piping systems.
- Proficient in GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (Stick) welding processes.
- Must be able to weld in 2G, 4G, and 6G positions.
- Experience welding Schedule 40, 80, and 160 pipe.
- Experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and chrome piping.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and technical manuals.
- Thorough understanding of welding techniques, metallurgy, and weld quality requirements.
- Must possess current applicable welding certifications or successfully pass a Zachry welding test.
- Must be capable of assisting pipefitters during installation, fabrication, and layout activities.
- Must be able to work at heights and in industrial environments.
- Must be able to meet all physical demands of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or former Zachry employee.
- Previous refinery, petrochemical, power generation, or heavy industrial maintenance experience.
- Additional welding certifications.
- Experience working maintenance and turnaround projects.
Required Rig Equipment
- Fully operational welding rig.
- Welding machine capable of GTAW and SMAW processes.
- Leads, stingers, ground cables, and required welding accessories.
- Torch equipment and regulators.
- Hand tools and welding tools necessary to perform assigned work.
- Current vehicle registration, insurance, and any site-required documentation.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairways, scaffolding, and elevated structures.
- Ability to work in awkward body positions and confined spaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, snow, and rain.
- Ability to use hands and arms for grasping, turning, pushing, pulling, and operating tools and equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including:
- Hard hat
- Safety glasses
- Welding hood
- Hearing protection
- Respiratory protection, when required
- Gloves
- High-visibility vest
- Leather work boots
Work Environment
- Outdoor industrial maintenance and construction environment.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
- Moderate to high noise levels.
- Regular exposure to welding operations, grinding, cutting, and industrial process equipment.
- Work performed around heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts, elevated work areas, and active industrial operations.
- May work in confined spaces and at elevated heights utilizing appropriate fall protection systems.
