ABOUT THE ROLE
Are you a hands-on leader who knows equipment and knows how to run a shop? American Construction Supply is looking for an Equipment Division Shop Manager to take ownership of our equipment shop and the team that keeps it running. This is a key leadership role responsible for service, repairs, rentals, inventory, and inside sales, all under one roof. The ideal candidate can manage people, equipment, customers, and multiple priorities while holding the team and themselves to a high standard of accountability.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Shop and Daily Operations
- Manage daily shop operations and set priorities for service, repairs, inspections, and equipment preparation.
- Coordinate workflow between technicians, service writing, rentals, and inside sales, and keep jobs on schedule.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized shop, and solve operational problems to improve efficiency and profitability.
Inventory Management
- Oversee equipment, parts, accessories, tools, and shop inventory, keeping accurate counts and records.
- Monitor levels, reorder as needed, and coordinate receiving, stocking, and organization.
- Track equipment in and out of the shop, run regular audits, and minimize lost, damaged, obsolete, or excess inventory.
Service Writing and Quoting
- Oversee the Service Writer so work orders are properly created, documented, and completed.
- Review estimates and quotes for accuracy, set appropriate labor, parts, and service charges, and keep open jobs progressing.
- Ensure timely customer communication on repairs, resolve service concerns, and monitor service profitability and productivity.
Rental Operations
- Oversee rental personnel and day-to-day rental operations, including check-in and check-out.
- Ensure rental equipment is inspected, serviced, clean, documented, and ready for the next customer, and track damage and downtime.
- Work with the Equipment Division Manager on rental rates and drive higher utilization and profitability.
Personnel Management
- Directly supervise assigned shop, rental, service, and inside sales staff; set expectations, schedule, and assign daily work.
- Train and develop employees, conduct or assist with reviews, and address performance and attendance issues.
- Promote teamwork across departments and ensure employees follow company policies, safety procedures, and proper work practices.
Inside Sales and Counter Operations (Oversight)
- Manage the Inside Sales Counter position and oversee daily counter operations. This is a supervisory role, not a day-to-day counter position.
- Ensure the team delivers prompt, professional service, enters quotes and orders accurately, and maintains appropriate stock levels.
- Coach staff to spot added sales opportunities, coordinate with outside sales and branches, and step in on escalated situations.
Equipment Sales Support
- Work closely with the Equipment Sales Manager, supporting deals with equipment availability, pricing, specifications, and condition.
- Ensure equipment being sold is inspected and prepared, and coordinate demonstrations and customer inspections when needed.
- Track equipment from acquisition through sale, determine reconditioning needs, and help move aging or underutilized units.
Customer Service
- Maintain strong relationships with contractors and equipment customers.
- Respond to concerns and resolve issues quickly, giving customers accurate information on equipment, rentals, repairs, and pricing.
- Assist sales personnel with larger or complex customer needs and keep a professional, customer-focused atmosphere in the shop.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all employees follow company safety policies and procedures, and keep the shop and yard safe and organized.
- Ensure equipment is properly inspected and maintained before being rented or sold.
- Report safety concerns, accidents, and equipment issues promptly, and ensure proper handling and storage of tools, parts, and materials.
Financial and Performance Management
- Monitor shop expenses, control operating costs, and review service, rental, and sales performance.
- Track labor efficiency and equipment downtime, and maintain profitable labor rates, rental rates, and repair pricing.
