Key job responsibilities
This role executes established safety programs and standard work across assigned manufacturing areas while maintaining a strong presence on the production floor. Responsibilities include conducting routine safety audits, inspections, hazard assessments, and workplace observations; supporting industrial hygiene monitoring for noise, dust, VOCs, and other exposures; and identifying, documenting, and tracking workplace hazards and corrective actions.
The role supports incident and near-miss investigations through fact gathering, root-cause analysis, documentation, and corrective-action tracking. It partners closely with operations and employees to reinforce established safe work practices, including machine safeguarding, lockout/tagout, chemical handling, ergonomics, and PPE requirements. Additional responsibilities include supporting PPE programs, delivering established safety training and toolbox talks, and maintaining accurate safety records and reporting.
Through regular employee engagement and coaching, this role reinforces safe behaviors and regulatory compliance, identifies opportunities for continuous improvement, supports implementation of approved solutions, and escalates hazards, regulatory concerns, or program gaps that fall outside established procedures or assigned authority.
A day in the life
A typical day for an AMS Safety Professional begins on the manufacturing floor, engaging with employees and leaders, observing work, and identifying potential hazards. The Safety Professional conducts scheduled inspections and audits, verifies corrective actions, and supports established programs such as machine safety, lockout/tagout, chemical safety, ergonomics, PPE, and industrial hygiene.
Throughout the day, they may respond to safety concerns, support incident or near-miss investigations, conduct toolbox talks or training, and coach employees on safe work practices. Time is also dedicated to documenting findings, updating safety systems, and tracking assigned actions to completion.
They will work closely with operations while operating within established procedures and standards. Complex or ambiguous issues are escalated to a manager or senior safety professional, allowing the Safety Professional to remain focused on strong floor engagement, consistent execution, and timely hazard resolution.
