Shipping/Receiving Operator I

Position Overview

The Shipping/Receiving Operator I is responsible for the identification of specific component parts and the preparation of products for shipment.

Essential Job Functions

The job duties listed below are the fundamental job duties of this position. Failure to perform any one of these duties would substantially alter the nature of the position

• Uses a crane, hoist, forklift, or other material handling equipment to transport materials and products into and out of the work area as required
• Packages, bands, or shrink-wraps products or loads
• Efficiently loads and unloads finished products on trucks
• Follows customer shipping specifications/standard work
• Inspects of material handling equipment and lifting devices
• Verifies/Counts parts moved to match paperwork for inventory accuracy
• Maintains accurate inventory of shipping materials
• Interprets blueprints, BOL, and other necessary documents to identify parts
• Collaborates with other members of the shipping process
• Utilizes ERP software to understand the status of jobs & materials moving through the manufacturing process
• Inspects deliveries and accurately logs documentation 
• Gathers/picks/assembles products on load lists
• Puts product away in designated areas
• Keeps area organized, maintains 5S Guidelines
• Ensures the use of safe work procedures and wears all required PPE. 
• Performs work at the appropriate pace to maintain quality and productivity requirements 
• Follows company policies concerning safety, cleanliness, attendance, etc. 
• Performs other duties as assigned or requested

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Experience in a manufacturing environment
• Skill of effective and appropriate verbal and written communication skills
  • Skill to accurately use tape measure and precision measuring devices
  • Computer literate; particularly in word processing, spreadsheet, email, shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications
  • Ability to perform basic shop math functions
  • Ability to read and understand required internal manufacturing paperwork 
  • Ability to electronically record production information
  • Ability to work independently using standardized practices and/or procedures and with others as part of a high-performance team
  • Adapt to changing work priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require adequate grip strength, finger manipulation, and/or foot motion to handle tools, product, equipment and/or controls on a regular basis. Generally, the job requires standing, walking, and balancing on a continuous basis Additionally, the employee may be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an occasional to frequent basis. The employee may be required to push and pull up to 75 pounds on an occasional to frequent basis depending on work assignment. The employee may be required to repetitively bend and/or reach forward to perform tasks involving moderate force. The employee may occasionally climb to complete necessary tasks as well as perform overhead work requiring moderate resistance depending on work assignment.

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with others. The noise level in the production environment is loud, consistent with normal shop conditions. The nature of the job is working with and around machinery and equipment.  The employee may be exposed to cut and puncture hazards, congested work areas, temperature variations, glare, and chemicals necessary to perform the role. For these reasons personal protective equipment is required.  This role requires near and far vision, tactical, hearing, speech, and spatial perception abilities.
