About the Role:

The Peer Recovery Specialist - Certified plays a vital role in supporting individuals on their journey to recovery from substance use disorders by leveraging their own lived experience and professional training. This position focuses on providing empathetic guidance, encouragement, and practical assistance to clients as they navigate treatment, recovery, and reintegration into the community. The specialist collaborates closely with healthcare providers, social services, and community organizations to ensure clients receive comprehensive support tailored to their unique needs. By fostering trust and hope, the Peer Recovery Specialist empowers clients to build resilience, develop coping strategies, and maintain long-term recovery. Ultimately, this role contributes to improving overall client well-being and reducing relapse rates through sustained peer support and advocacy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist from a recognized accrediting body.
  • Demonstrated personal experience with recovery from substance use disorder.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in behavioral health or related fields is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in peer support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in behavioral health, addiction treatment, or social services settings.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and recovery support networks.
  • Training in crisis intervention and motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and documentation software.
  • Bilingual abilities or cultural competency relevant to diverse client populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one peer support and mentoring to individuals in recovery, sharing personal experiences to inspire and motivate.
  • Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans and setting achievable goals.
  • Facilitate access to community resources, treatment programs, and support groups to enhance client engagement and recovery outcomes.
  • Advocate for clients’ needs within healthcare and social service systems to ensure coordinated and effective care.
  • Document client interactions, progress, and outcomes accurately in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct outreach activities to engage individuals who may benefit from peer recovery services.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certification and stay current with best practices.
