PROFILE DESCRIPTION

Provides legal and administrative support to Company attorneys through legal research, fact investigation, document preparation, and other legal support activities. Performs varied and complex assignments.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Legal Services, provides substantive legal and administrative support to Company attorneys by conducting legal research, investigating facts, preparing legal documents, and assisting with regulatory, litigation, transactional, and other legal matters. Assignments are varied and often complex, requiring a high degree of technical proficiency, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists attorneys with the preparation, filing, and management of regulatory applications, rate case filings, testimony, compliance reports, and other proceedings before state utility regulatory agencies.
  2. Files pleadings, applications, reports, and other documents with state and local regulatory agencies and commissions.
  3. Prepares, organizes, and maintains legal documents, correspondence, and regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with applicable filing requirements and deadlines.
  4. Reviews, analyzes, and summarizes legal documents, regulatory filings, orders, and other materials.
  5. Monitors and tracks proceedings, filings, deadlines, and developments before regulatory agencies and commissions.
  6. Maintains and organizes case files, databases, records, and electronic document management systems for regulatory and legal matters.
  7. Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, case law, legal articles, and other sources to assist attorneys in the preparation of briefs, motions, contracts, regulatory filings, and other legal documents.
  8. Develops, maintains, and implements procedures and tracking systems for recurring legal and regulatory activities.
  9. Prepares, organizes, and coordinates responses to discovery requests, including requests for production, interrogatories, and subpoenas.
  10. Coordinates document collection, review, and production with internal departments, outside counsel, and regulatory agencies.
  11. May attend Company meetings, regulatory proceedings, hearings, and other legal or regulatory meetings as assigned.
  12. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
  13. Complies with Company policies, procedures, and Code of Ethics, as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including employment, safety, and environmental requirements.

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without reasonable accommodation that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 

Successful completion of a paralegal program accredited by the American Bar Association or Certified Legal Assistant designation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Minimum of three (3) years.

 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Experience as a Legal Assistant with progressively responsible experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, governmental agency, or related legal environment. Experience in energy, securities, corporate, or regulatory law preferred.
  2. Demonstrated experience preparing legal documents and organizing and maintaining complex legal files and records.
  3. Knowledge of legal research principles, methodologies, and law office procedures and practices.
  4. Ability to review, analyze, and evaluate information and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  5. Ability to apply logical and analytical thinking to identify issues, gather and evaluate data, establish facts, and draw sound conclusions.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and document management systems.
  7. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound judgment.
  8. Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage confidential information.
  9. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, officers, managers, employees, regulatory agencies, and the public.
  11. Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive matters.
  12. Availability to travel and work extended or irregular hours, as required.
  13. Knowledge of regulatory filings, administrative proceedings, and public utility regulatory processes preferred.
  14. Experience supporting regulatory matters before state or local governmental agencies preferred.
