What’s on Your Plate:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A Lead Cashier is responsible for performing the following duties (other duties may be assigned):  

 

  • Set up and oversee functions of each POS station to ensure that they conform to efficiency and quality standards
  • Train cashiers in the use of sophisticated POS systems to ensure that they provide optimum service to guests
  • Maintain quality service during payment processing procedures
  • Respond to guest complaints and suggestions positively and ensure that they are serviced immediately
  • Assist cashiers in balancing their cash drawers at the end of each shift and ensure that any discrepancies are addressed immediately
  • Create schedules for all cashiers and ensure that they are implemented properly
  • Handle bank liaison duties to ensure that daily cash deposits are properly and timely carried out
  • Resolve employee conflicts and problems, aiming to ensure harmony within the organization
  • Follows liquor and tobacco laws implicitly, in every regard including, but not limited to the verification and authenticity of valid, acceptable identification. Is responsible for ensuring that all alcohol purchases are made by persons aged 21 and older & and tobacco purchases are made by persons aged 18 and older. Verifies proper identification of guests who appear to be under the age of 30 and are making an alcohol or tobacco purchase.

 

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). As mandated by California state law; Cashiers who sell alcoholic beverages must be 18 years old or older.

 

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, Lead Cashiers are regularly required to stand for long periods; walk; reach; bend; frequent use of wrists; hands, hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Lead Cashiers are frequently required to bend at the waist and reach with their arms and hands into guests’ grocery carts to collect merchandise. Lead Cashiers are occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual must frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Lead Cashiers must have the ability to speak effectively with guests and staff members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and color vision.
