Job Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating third shift maintenance operations in a meat processing facility. This is a working supervisor role that actively performs maintenance duties while supervising a team of maintenance technicians. The supervisor ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production equipment and facility systems, including conveyors, overhead chain systems, electrical systems, boilers, and the engine room.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise, direct, and support a team of approximately 6 maintenance team members
  • Assign work, establish priorities, and monitor shift performance
  • Provide coaching, training, and development
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, maintenance procedures, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and shift reports

Working Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Actively perform maintenance and repair tasks alongside team members
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems
  • Perform hands-on maintenance on:
    • Conveyors and material handling systems
    • Overhead chain systems
    • Processing and packaging equipment
    • Electrical systems, wiring, motors, and controls
    • Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Assist with equipment installations, modifications, and upgrades
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and equipment failures

Electrical & Mechanical Work

  • Perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs as qualified
  • Perform mechanical repairs, adjustments, and component replacements
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards

Boiler & Engine Room Oversight

  • Monitor boiler operations and utility systems
  • Ensure safe operation and regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate repairs, inspections, and corrective actions
  • Respond to alarms or system malfunctions

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce workplace safety standards and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to LOTO procedures
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, USDA, and facility safety standards
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Coordinate with production and sanitation teams
  • Support equipment readiness and plant efficiency
  • Assist in minimizing downtime

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred
  • Prior maintenance leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to safely perform hands-on maintenance work
  • Knowledge of industrial maintenance practices
  • Familiarity with boilers and utility systems preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work in industrial environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform hands-on mechanical and electrical work
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, and noisy conditions
  • Ability to respond to maintenance emergencies

Work Environment

  • Meat processing/manufacturing facility
  • Exposure to:
    • Cold and wet production areas
    • Extremely hot production areas
    • Mechanical equipment and moving conveyors
    • Electrical systems
    • Boiler and engine room conditions
