Job Summary:

The Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing electrical systems and equipment throughout the hog processing facility. This position supports production by ensuring electrical and automated equipment operates safely and efficiently while minimizing equipment downtime. Equipment may include labeling equipment, printers, banders, scales, motors, pumps, conveyors, sensors, and other production machinery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install industrial electrical systems and equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot labeling equipment, printers, banders, scales, motors, pumps, conveyors, sensors, and production machinery.
  • Troubleshoot AC/DC systems, motor controls, PLCs, hardwired systems, and industrial controls.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and electrical prints.
  • Test electrical equipment for proper voltage, amperage, continuity, and operation.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspect equipment to identify potential electrical issues before they cause downtime.
  • Respond promptly to production calls involving electrical or equipment issues.
  • Install, replace, and repair electrical and electromechanical components, including motors, pumps, valves, sensors, switches, relays, and controls.
  • Follow electrical codes, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, GMPs, and food safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and keep tools and work areas clean and orderly.
  • Communicate effectively with Maintenance Supervisors, Production Supervisors, Maintenance Personnel, Quality Personnel, and Production Operators.
  • Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of related industrial electrical experience required.
  • Electrical trade school, apprenticeship, certificate program, or equivalent training preferred.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC systems, motor controls, PLCs, industrial controls, and hardwired systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and prints.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use electrical testing equipment and hand/power tools.
  • Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Previous food-processing or industrial manufacturing experience preferred.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, parts, and equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to safely work around operating production equipment while following all required safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, hot, and noisy environments
  • Ability to work around machinery and moving equipment
  • Ability to work in temperatures ranging from approximately 10°F to 100°F and in wet and humid conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders approximately 6–12 feet and work at elevated heights.
  • Ability to work with arms extended above shoulder level.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.

  • Meat processing/manufacturing facility
  • Exposure to:
    • Cold and wet production areas
    • Extremely Hot production areas
    • Mechanical equipment and conveyors
    • Electrical systems
    • Boiler/engine room conditions
    • Noise and industrial hazards

Shift & Schedule: 

  • Shift: [1st: 6:00am / 2nd: 2:00pm / 3rd: 10:00pm]
  • Schedule: Monday to Saturday, you will work up to 10 to 12 hours a day
