Pet Wants San Diego is a locally owned, community-focused pet nutrition and supply store offering fresh, premium dog and cat food, healthy treats, supplements, and high-quality pet products. We participate in farmers markets, rescue events, and community pop-ups every week to bring fresh food directly to pet parents across San Diego.

Role Overview

As a Retail Sales Associate, you will be the friendly, knowledgeable face of Pet Wants inside our store and at local events. This role combines customer service, consultative selling, event support, merchandising. You’ll help pet parents choose the right foods and products for their dogs and cats while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Requirements

What You’ll Do

Customer Service & Sales

• Learn all about our unique pet food offerings
• Greet customers and build relationships with pet parents and their pets
• Ask questions to understand pet needs and recommend appropriate products
• Explain the benefits of fresh, small-batch Pet Wants food
• Upsell treats, supplements, and bundled offers

Store Operations

• Restock shelves and merchandise displays
• Maintain a clean, organized, pet-friendly environment
• Operate POS system to complete purchases
• Assist with inventory counts and receiving deliveries 
• Assist with Grooming operations, i.e., take appointments, intake and check out of grooming appointment

Events & Outreach

• Work farmers markets, community events, and adoption events as needed
• Set up tents, tables, displays, samples, and signage
• Engage new customers and collect contact information
• Educate event customers on Pet Wants foods and programs

Who You Are

• Friendly, upbeat, and comfortable talking to people
• Passionate about pets and eager to learn pet nutrition
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs. (food bags, event setup)
• Comfortable working indoors AND at outdoor events
• Retail, customer service, or sales experience preferred but not required
• Able to work weekends (markets + busiest in-store days)
• Able to work with dogs and cats during store events, and with Grooming operations.
