Job Summary We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and motivated Fire Sprinkler Service Technician to join our Fire Sprinkler Department. The Fire Sprinkler Service Technician is responsible for performing service, repair, maintenance, replacement, and troubleshooting of residential and commercial fire sprinkler systems. This position requires a strong working knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, the ability to work independently, sound mechanical judgment, and a professional approach when interacting with customers, property managers, building owners, and other job-site personnel. The position may include work on both residential plastic/CPVC systems and commercial steel piping systems, with assignments varying based on company and project needs. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, a go-getter attitude, reliable and predictable attendance, and a desire to continue developing their skills and knowledge within the fire protection industry. This position requires a minimum of 2–3 years of full-time experience in the fire sprinkler trade. Core Responsibilities 1. Fire Sprinkler Service & Repair Perform service, repair, maintenance, replacement, and troubleshooting of residential and commercial fire sprinkler systems. Install, service, repair, and replace sprinkler heads, valves, fittings, piping components, hydrants, and related fire protection equipment. Diagnose system issues and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions. Work with both residential plastic/CPVC piping systems and commercial steel piping systems. Perform assigned service work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards. Read and interpret blueprints, plans, diagrams, and other technical documentation as necessary to complete assigned work. Identify potential system deficiencies and communicate required repairs or concerns to the appropriate supervisor, customer, or property representative. 2. Codes, Standards & Technical Knowledge Maintain a working knowledge of applicable NFPA standards, including: NFPA 13D NFPA 13R NFPA 13 NFPA 14 NFPA 20 NFPA 25 NFPA 80 Apply applicable fire sprinkler codes, standards, manufacturer requirements, and company procedures when performing service and repair work. Stay current on industry practices, equipment, materials, and applicable safety requirements. Demonstrate sound mechanical reasoning and the ability to troubleshoot problems in both standardized and non-standardized situations. 3. Customer Service & Professional Conduct Maintain a professional attitude and appearance while representing Symons Fire Protection. Interface professionally with property managers, building owners, customers, general contractors, and other job-site personnel. Clearly communicate the status of service work, identified issues, recommended repairs, and other relevant information. Respond to customer questions and concerns in a courteous and professional manner. Protect customer property and maintain a clean and organized work area. Represent the company in a manner consistent with its commitment to quality, safety, and customer service. 4. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and required safety procedures. Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain awareness of job-site hazards and take appropriate precautions when performing service work. Follow applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, NFPA, manufacturer, and company requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Safely operate ladders, tools, equipment, and other materials required to perform assigned duties. Immediately report safety concerns, damaged equipment, hazardous conditions, or other issues to the appropriate supervisor. 5. Independent Work & Teamwork Work independently with limited supervision while maintaining company quality and safety standards. Demonstrate the ability to give and follow directions. Manage assigned service calls and tasks efficiently. Communicate effectively with service managers, supervisors, technicians, and other members of the team. Assist coworkers and other departments as needed. Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities. 6. Documentation & Technology Complete accurate service documentation, reports, work orders, and other required paperwork. Document work performed, materials used, system conditions, deficiencies, and recommended repairs. Use company communication and technology systems as required. Demonstrate the ability to use Paycom, Outlook, ServiceTrade, and basic mobile-device functions. Maintain accurate records and communicate service information in a timely manner. 7. On-Call & Emergency Service Participate in the company's 24-hour on-call rotation. Respond to after-hours emergency service calls as scheduled. Be available and prepared to respond to emergency fire sprinkler system issues when assigned. Maintain professional communication and service standards during emergency and after-hours calls. Safely troubleshoot and address emergency system conditions within the scope of training and qualifications. 8. Attendance & Work Standards Maintain reliable and predictable attendance. Arrive at assigned locations on time and prepared to perform required duties. Maintain a professional attitude, strong work ethic, and positive approach to assigned responsibilities. Demonstrate a go-getter attitude and willingness to take initiative. Maintain appropriate communication with supervisors regarding schedules, service calls, delays, and other work-related matters. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Reliable and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Duties and responsibilities may be changed at any time based on business needs. QualificationsEducation & Experience High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 2–3 years of full-time experience in the fire sprinkler trade required. Previous experience performing fire sprinkler service, repair, maintenance, inspection-related work, or system troubleshooting strongly preferred. Working knowledge of both steel piping and CPVC/plastic fire sprinkler systems preferred. Experience reading fire sprinkler drawings, blueprints, plans, and diagrams preferred. Clean driving record is a plus. Must be willing and able to participate in the company's 24-hour on-call rotation. Required Training Blazemaster training must be obtained within the first 3 months of employment. OSHA 10 training must be obtained within the first 3 months of employment. Additional company-required training and certifications must be completed within established timeframes. Language Skills Ability to read, write, and speak English. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to comprehend written correspondence, lists, reports, work orders, and service documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, property managers, supervisors, and coworkers both in person and by phone. Computer & Technology Skills Basic computer and mobile-device skills required. Ability to learn and use company systems, including Paycom, Outlook, and ServiceTrade. Ability to communicate through mobile devices as required for work. Ability to complete electronic documentation and service-related records accurately. Mathematical Skills Basic math skills are required. Ability to calculate figures and amounts related to service work and measurements. Ability to understand and apply basic rates, ratios, percentages, measurements, dimensions, and other job-related calculations. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense and practical judgment when performing service and repair work. Ability to carry out written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions. Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine appropriate solutions. Ability to deal effectively with problems involving multiple concrete variables in non-standardized situations. Ability to recognize when an issue requires additional assistance or escalation to a supervisor. Physical Requirements This position requires physical stamina and the ability to safely perform fire sprinkler service and repair activities throughout the workday. Employees must be able to stand, walk, climb, reach, bend, crouch, kneel, crawl, balance, talk, hear, and work with their hands and arms. The position requires the ability to lift and handle tools, piping, fittings, equipment, and other materials weighing up to 100 lbs. Physical requirements include: Standing: Remain standing for extended periods while performing service and repair duties. Walking: Walk and move throughout active construction sites, commercial properties, mechanical rooms, and other work areas. Climbing: Ascend and descend ladders and similar equipment. Crouching: Bend the body downward or forward by bending the legs and spine. Crawling: Work and maneuver in confined areas, including attics and other restricted spaces. Kneeling: Kneel as necessary to perform service, repair, and installation tasks. Handling: Seize, hold, move, and work with tools, piping, fittings, valves, and other materials. Lifting: Raise and lower tools, piping, equipment, fittings, and other materials weighing up to 100 lbs. Reaching: Extend hands and arms in various directions to perform service and repair tasks. Stooping: Bend the body downward and forward at the knees or waist. Balancing: Maintain balance while working on ladders, elevated surfaces, and uneven work areas. Vision: Possess sufficient visual acuity to perform assigned work thoroughly and accurately, including the ability to distinguish colors. Talking & Hearing: Communicate effectively by phone and in person with customers, coworkers, supervisors, and other job-site personnel. Mobility: Move safely throughout residential, commercial, and construction environments while performing assigned duties. Technicians may be required to travel to assigned customer locations, job sites, service calls, and emergency calls during the normal workday or as part of the on-call rotation. If a personal vehicle is required for authorized company use during the workday, a mileage reimbursement expense form must be submitted in accordance with company policy.
