Job Description

This position leads the nationwide strategy for all aspects of real-time video communications and is responsible for the AV technology, Cisco Webex platform, and conference room functions in all WGU spaces. The Manager also leads a team of Simulation Lab Technicians, who operate all technology functions for WGU’s Nursing Simulation Labs across the country. The Manager will define support processes consistent with IT, Operations, and Nursing needs, integrate ITIL practices, and manage technology lifecycle.

This role will also manage a team of Engineers and technicians through vision, technical execution, and operational leadership. They will develop and facilitate relationships with internal IT teams, building engineers, strategic partners, and vendors to execute and deliver based on requirements from leadership and customers. The Manager will act as Product Manager for these technologies critical to staff and student success.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Design, engineer, and manage video conferencing applications and systems including endpoints and audio-visual infrastructure.

  • Lead a team to provide student and faculty success in WGU Nursing Simulation Labs. The team will operate all technology elements within the labs at WGU locations, provide monitoring and support functions, and help develop AV solutions that meet and exceed business expectations and innovate for maximum value.

  • Work closely with facilities in the design and planning of collaboration spaces and integrated physical technology in workspaces.

  • Manage execution of projects including design, quotes, vendors, installation, quality assurance, and training.

  • Represent technology costs and timelines of work for upgrades, remodels, and new construction projects.

  • Design technology standards for remote sites, room types, interfaces, and systems for consistent operations.

  • Build training resources to educate and inform different employee groups and monitor user feedback for high net promoter scores.

  • Work closely with management, technology, and facilities teams to ensure technology supports future roadmaps and business needs.

  • Manage external partner and vendor relationships.

  • Continually explore new technology to improve WGU student and employee collaboration as well as workspace/building technology.

  • Ensure quality platforms are provided for high-visibility events including executive meetings, All Hands broadcasts, Commencement live-streaming, etc.

  • Maintain subject matter expertise to guide adoption and maximum value for student and employee collaboration experiences.

  • Plan and maintain operational budgets.

  • Implement operating plans and provide operational metrics.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Skilled in engineering and integrating video conferencing and unified communication platforms and hardware in enterprise applications, such as Cisco Webex, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, SIP, H.323, Cisco Webex Control Hub, Cisco endpoints, VCS, VCS Expressways, CUCM, and video endcoders.

  • Skilled as a technical owner for escalations and management of Enterprise Video Conference solutions including Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other solutions.

  • Knowledge of enterprise networking standards and practices.

  • Ability to manage operations of business-critical infrastructure and ensure high-reliability.

  • Skilled in managing engineering and operations teams.

  • Knowledge in Vendor and Project Management relationships for highest value.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, install, and upgrade conference room AV technology.

  • Strong vendor management skills, including vendors in the Nursing, AV, IT, and Telecom spaces.

  • Ability to travel for remote work on occasion.

  • May complete assignments that are technical in manner in addition to supervising others.

  • Demonstrates the WGU leadership principles in all aspects of service to students, employees, and partners of WGU.


Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • 5 years of IT or AV related work experience

  • 2 years of leadership experience leading technical teams.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cisco CCNP Collaboration Certification

  • ITIL practical experience and certifications

  • Familiar with medical terminology and nursing simulation technology


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.


This position requires occasional travel of up to 20%, including required attendance at designated company summits (typically one to two per year). Additional travel may include conferences, visits to company locations, and other business-related events as needed. Additional travel may be assigned as needed to support business requirements.
