Emerald Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an AOI Programmer on its Saline, MI team! The AOI Programmer is responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing inspection programs for Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment used in the manufacturing of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). This position works closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to ensure accurate defect detection while minimizing false calls. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically inclined, and eager to learn electronics manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities: 

  • Create and maintain AOI inspection programs for printed circuit board assemblies. 
  • Set up and optimize component libraries, inspection parameters, and defect criteria. 
  • Verify and validate AOI programs prior to production release. 
  • Physically run the machine when required and perform inspection of the PCBAs.
  • Troubleshoot and reduce false failures to improve manufacturing efficiency. 
  • Review inspection results and assist in root cause analysis of quality issues. 
  • Work with Process Engineers and Quality personnel to improve inspection effectiveness. 
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities by developing inspection programs for new assemblies. 
  • Perform program modifications to accommodate engineering changes and process improvements. 
  • Maintain documentation related to AOI programming and inspection processes. 
  • Assist with equipment setup, calibration, and routine maintenance activities. 
  • Follow all quality standards, work instructions, and safety procedures. 
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality and productivity.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or an associate degree in Electronics, Manufacturing, or a related field is a plus. 
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency. 
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, assembly drawings, and technical documentation. 
  • Basic knowledge of electronic components, PCBs, and manufacturing processes is preferred. 
  • Exposure to SMT, AOI, SPI, or electronics manufacturing through education, internships, or work experience is a plus. 
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities. 
  • Willingness to learn AOI programming software, inspection processes, and continuous improvement methods.
