Saber Power Services is seeking an experienced VFD Specialist/Technician II to join our team. This position is responsible for the installation, programming, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintenance of variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control systems, and associated electrical equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Job Summary
The VFD Specialist/Technician II performs intermediate-level technical work involving VFD systems, motor controls, and related electrical equipment. This position works independently and with project teams to install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and commission equipment while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, configure, program, test, and troubleshoot VFDs and associated motor control equipment.Â
- Perform startup and commissioning activities for VFDs, motors, and control systems.Â
- Troubleshoot electrical, control, communication, and equipment-related issues using test equipment and diagnostic tools.Â
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and equipment manuals.Â
- Configure VFD parameters based on equipment requirements, motor data, and project specifications.Â
- Perform testing and verification of VFDs, motor circuits, control circuits, and associated equipment.Â
- Assist with system integration, including PLCs, HMIs, communication networks, and other control systems as required.Â
- Identify equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to improve system reliability and performance.Â
- Document testing results, equipment settings, deficiencies, and corrective actions.Â
- Work with engineers, project managers, electricians, and other technicians to resolve technical issues.Â
- Assist with preventative maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of VFD and motor-control systems.Â
- Maintain accurate project documentation, test records, and commissioning reports.Â
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA and industry standards.Â
- Participate in job briefings, safety meetings, and project coordination activities.Â
- Provide technical support and guidance to less-experienced technicians as needed.Â
- Travel to customer and project sites as required.Â
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.Â

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or electrical training preferred.Â
- Minimum of 3 years of electrical or industrial controls experience, with demonstrated experience working with VFD systems.Â
- Experience installing, programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning VFDs.Â
- Experience with major VFD manufacturers such as ABB, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or similar preferred.Â
- Working knowledge of AC motors, motor controls, starters, disconnects, and electrical distribution systems.Â
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.Â
- Experience using electrical test equipment, including multimeters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic equipment.Â
- Basic understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial communication networks, and control systems preferred.Â
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Â
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Â
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.Â
- Ability to travel to project and customer sites as required.Â
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.Â
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
