Director, Government Affairs leads GE Appliances’ state government affairs strategy across all 50 states. The role represents the company before state policymakers, trade associations, coalitions, and other external stakeholders while advising company leaders on legislative, regulatory, political, and public policy developments that may affect the business.Position

Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a nationwide state government affairs strategy aligned with GE Appliances’ business priorities
- Monitor, analyze, and prioritize state legislative activity, translating policy developments into business implications and action plans
- Represent GE Appliances before governors’ offices, state legislatures, agencies, legislative staff, trade associations, coalitions, and policy organizations
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with elected officials, policymakers, industry partners, and external stakeholders
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Product, Technology, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sustainability, Commercial, Communications, and other functions to develop company positions and advocacy strategies
- Lead or coordinate company responses to priority legislation, including testimony, comments, amendments, briefing materials, and other advocacy communications
- Manage external government affairs consultants and contract lobbyists when needed, ensuring alignment with company priorities, policy positions, ethical standards, and accountability expectations
- Prepare executives for government engagement and identify opportunities to showcase GE Appliances’ manufacturing footprint, innovation, workforce, investments, and economic impact
- Ensure lobbying, ethics, disclosure, political activity, and reporting compliance in coordination with Legal and Compliance
- Track legislative priorities, advocacy activities, outcomes, metrics, resources, and budget to demonstrate business impact
What You'll Bring to Our Team
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs, public policy, legislative affairs, government relations, or a related field, including significant government experience
- Strong knowledge of state legislative and regulatory processes and the ability to manage issues across multiple states
- Proven ability to analyze complex legislation, develop advocacy strategies, influence outcomes, and communicate clearly with senior executives and non-policy audiences
- Knowledge of the legal and operational construct of PACs
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with policymakers, legislative staff, trade associations, industry partners, and other stakeholders
- Ability to work independently, collaborate across a matrixed organization, and travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in law, public policy, government, business, or a related discipline.
- Experience within a staff position or closely working with House and Senate committees
- Experience leading state government affairs for a national company, trade association, or complex organization
- Experience managing a multi-state legislative portfolio and issues affecting manufacturing, consumer products, energy, environment, product regulation, technology, privacy, labor, tax, transportation, or related areas
- Established relationships with state policymakers, national organizations of state officials, business organizations, and government affairs professionals
- Experience directing outside lobbyists, consultants, trade associations, and coalitions
- Strong political judgment, executive presence, business acumen, and ability to advise senior leaders on political and legislative risk
