The Dance Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality dance instruction and supporting the artistic, educational, and personal development of university students. The position plans and delivers engaging dance courses, rehearsals, workshops, and related activities appropriate to the academic and performance objectives of the University. The Dance Instructor promotes technical excellence, creativity, discipline, collaboration, cultural awareness, and professionalism while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and deliver dance instruction in assigned courses and instructional settings.
- Teach appropriate dance techniques, choreography, terminology, performance practices, and related concepts.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, assignments, and activities aligned with course and program objectives.
- Incorporate appropriate technology, multimedia, and contemporary instructional strategies into dance education.
- Maintain an organized, engaging, and respectful classroom environment.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessments, and other required course documentation.
- Coordinate rehearsal schedules, staging, transitions, music, costumes, props, and other performance requirements as assigned.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, guest artists, musicians, directors, choreographers, and production personnel.
- Provide guidance regarding performance opportunities, auditions, internships, careers, and continued education when appropriate.
- Promote student participation in campus, community, regional, and professional dance opportunities.
- Participate in departmental meetings, committees, orientations, recruitment events, auditions, and other University activities as assigned.
- Promote the University's dance program and contribute to student enrollment and retention efforts.
- Participate in professional development and continuing education activities.
- Follow University policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Dance, Performing Arts, Fine Arts, Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Professional training and demonstrated proficiency in one or more dance disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience teaching dance in an academic, community, studio, professional, or comparable setting.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
