Turner's Outdoorsman looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented HR Manager to join our Human Resources team. This role will support a broad range of HR operations, with a strong focus on payroll, benefits administration, personnel changes, terminations, recruitment, compliance, 401(k) administration, and HRIS accuracy. A key responsibility of this position will be serving as backup to our Payroll Lead. Strong hands-on payroll processing experience using ADP Workforce Now, along with experience supporting a multi-state workforce, is required.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will be dependable, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-state HR environment. This person should be able to move easily between payroll, benefits, 401(k) administration, personnel changes, recruiting, compliance, and general HR operations while maintaining a high level of accuracy and follow-through. We are looking for someone who takes ownership, catches the details, and can serve as a reliable operational partner to the Payroll Lead and HR Director.

What You’ll Do

Payroll & Personnel Administration

  • Serve as backup to the Payroll Lead and assist with processing payroll accurately and on time through ADP Workforce Now
  • Review payroll data, identify discrepancies, and assist with payroll corrections and employee payroll questions
  • Process Change in Status forms, pay rate changes, promotions, transfers, and other personnel changes
  • Ensure employee changes are entered accurately and timely in ADP Workforce Now
  • Monitor and audit vacation and sick accruals to ensure balances are calculated and maintained accurately
  • Research and resolve vacation and sick time balance discrepancies, including reviewing accrual rates, employee eligibility, and payroll records
  • Ensure accrual changes related to tenure, status changes, or applicable state requirements are accurately reflected in ADP Workforce Now
  • Manage and review payroll deductions related to employee benefits
  • Assist with wage garnishments and other wage orders, including reviewing and responding to applicable notices
  • Review and respond to EDD notices and other payroll-related agency correspondence
  • Conduct periodic payroll and HRIS audits to ensure employee data, deductions, pay rates, job changes, and status changes are accurate

Terminations & Offboarding

  • Support the full employee termination process, including final paycheck calculations, required notices, termination paperwork, and completion of termination packets
  • Ensure termination files are accurate, complete, and properly maintained
  • Coordinate benefit termination information and other required offboarding steps
  • Ensure final pay and termination documentation are completed in accordance with applicable state requirements

Benefits & 401(k) Administration

  • Reconcile benefit invoices and research discrepancies related to enrollments, deductions, terminations, and carrier billing
  • Manage and review employee benefit deductions through payroll
  • Assist with employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Support annual open enrollment activities and employee benefits communications
  • Respond to employee questions regarding benefit plans, deductions, and enrollment
  • Support the day-to-day administration of the company’s 401(k) plan through ADP
  • Review 401(k) payroll deductions and contribution data to ensure elections and deductions are processed accurately
  • Research and resolve 401(k) deduction or contribution discrepancies in coordination with Payroll and ADP
  • Assist employees with routine 401(k) questions and direct more complex plan questions to the appropriate ADP resource
  • Help monitor 401(k) administration items, payroll integration, employee changes, and other plan-related issues to ensure they are addressed timely

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Support recruitment efforts, including job postings, candidate review, interview coordination, and communication with hiring managers
  • Assist with candidate screening and recruiting activities 
  • Support new-hire onboarding and ensure required documentation is completed
  • Assist with I-9 completion and employee file documentation
  • Ensure new hires are accurately entered into ADP Workforce Now

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS information
  • Conduct employee file and HRIS audits to ensure documentation is complete and accurate
  • Assist with required compliance notices, acknowledgments, postings, and other HR documentation
  • Support HR reporting, audits, compliance initiatives, and special projects
  • Prepare recurring HR reports related to headcount, turnover, payroll changes, benefits, recruiting, and other HR metrics
  • Respond to employee and manager questions regarding payroll, benefits, policies, and general HR matters
  • Assist with unemployment claims and related agency correspondence
  • Support workers’ compensation administration, including claim intake, documentation, and coordination with the appropriate carrier or administrator

HR Director Support

  • Provide administrative and documentation support for employee relations matters as directed by the HR Director
  • Assist with gathering records and documentation needed for investigations, leaves, and accommodation matters
  • Maintain related files and track required documentation and deadlines
  • Escalate employee relations, leave, accommodation, and other sensitive matters to the HR Director

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of progressive Human Resources experience
  • Strong hands-on payroll processing experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required
  • 3+ years of ADP Workforce Now experience required
  • Multi-state HR and payroll experience required
  • Experience supporting a high-volume workforce
  • Experience supporting employees across multiple jurisdictions and navigating varying state requirements
  • Experience with final pay, employee terminations, and termination documentation
  • Experience processing pay rate and personnel changes
  • Experience managing benefit deductions, wage garnishments, and related notices
  • Experience with benefits administration and invoice reconciliation
  • Experience supporting 401(k) administration and payroll deductions
  • Experience supporting recruitment and onboarding activities
  • Working knowledge of wage and hour requirements and general employment practices
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication, follow-through, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-location environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance, including assisting with loading and unloading as needed
  • Must be able to safely use both hands when handling a firearm
  • Must be able to use a computer proficiently and learn new software programs and systems
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and lift throughout the course of a scheduled workday

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel is required, approximately 20% of the time
  • Travel may include participation in recruitment job fairs, company events, training seminars, corporate meetings, new store openings, and other business needs as required
