Description

The primary function and purpose of the Sustaining Mechanical Engineer is to support the product development and launch of our innovative Bolt iQ product. In addition to product enhancements, the candidate is to provide direct operational support including prototyping, testing, installation and maintenance of equipment.


 Essential Functions

  • As a member of the Product Engineering team, the candidate delivers product design and operational changes. This includes modifications to mechanical parts, connectors, cabling, high-pressure components and electro-mechanical test equipment.
  • Leads BOM management efforts, ECN changes, drawing management and product design specifications.
  • Assist in design level testing, simulation, and failure analysis – this may involve familiarity with environmental chambers, vibration tables, and 6-sigma toolsets for analysis of data.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations and Vendors to ensure customer requirements are continually satisfied.
  • Support and evaluate changes to existing products to improve quality.
  • Support industry certifications and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Demonstrate accountability and technical expertise to bring structured processes to support on-time delivery.
  • Provides additional support across all areas of the business as required and as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

Qualifications


Essential:

· Bachelor or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering

· 1-4 years minimum experience in mechanical design, product development or equipment development

· Strong knowledge of SolidWorks drawing/modeling/simulation tools – ProE, Fusion360 or other equivalent packages may be considered.

· Highly proficient with mechanical enclosure design for electronic circuit boards and other key components.

· Broad knowledge of common mechanical part fabrication processes such as Injection Molding & Tooling, Low pressure Molding, Casting, 3D printing, Stamping/Forming,

· Ability to demonstrate statistical tools in problem solving (6-sigma design methodology, GD&T, FMEA etc.).

· Knowledge of development tools, product testing practices, fabrication processes

· Ability to use and/or interpret results from simulation software packages such as MoldFlow or SolidWorks Plastics

· Ability to interpret a set of written requirements and realize the specifications required to deliver the finished product.

· Familiarity with FDM, SLA, SLS and other 3D printing techniques to iterate product design.

· Candidate must be detail-oriented and support building jigs, fixtures and other equipment used in operations.

· Must be familiar with BOM management, drawing management, components, assemblies,

· 6-sigma and other certifications considered a plus.
