I. General Summary: Lead production engineering functions for automotive interiors manufacturing and assembly processes within TBAGC Tier 1 JIT automotive manufacturing plants.  Improve the efficiencies of the company's plant and production facilities and equipment layouts including establishing methods for maximum utilization of production equipment, materials, facilities, and team members.     

 

II. Essential Job Functions:

  1. Evaluate and approve process and production preparation plans for new automotive products.
  2. Advise to related parties regarding Process Flow, Layout and Work Combination.
  3. Coach supplier selection process for sourcing of tools and equipment.
  4. Map PE manning plan for mid and long term plan.
  5. Support discussion with plants for agreement of specifications of equipment.
  6. Oversee and coach the design, construction and installation of new tools and equipment.
  7. Analyze and elevate production preparation issues in a timely manner to allow for countermeasures.
  8. Report production preparation status to PE management and related groups.
  9. Oversee Production Engineering group with a focus on equipment, processes, human resource allocation, cost management, setting priorities, and leading through problem identification and resolution.
  10. Provide support to TBAGC plants as needed for manufacturing issues while aligning department goals with company goals. 
  • Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

              Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required, or equivalent combination of education and direct experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.

              Experience:   

  • Greater than twelve (12) years of experience in the automotive production engineering field required.
  • Greater than six (6) years of functional management experience required.
  • Experience in automotive interiors related processes is required.

Personal/Technical Skills:

  • Understanding and working knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and welding equipment and tooling including design, automation, robotics, or manufacturing processes (and all secondary related processes) relating to automotive interiors.
  • Ability to read component, assembly and equipment drawings and have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Practical experience applying Toyota Production System (TPS) principles in an automotive environment.
  • Ability to effectively compile and report information.
  • Understand budget control and related budget tracking activities.
  • Full knowledge of cost structures and cost reduction strategies.
  • Fully capable to do PFMEA.
  • Excellent math skills.

  • Effective project management skills.
  • Strong managerial/leadership skills and ability.
  • Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.

  Language Skills:

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information in verbal and written English.
  • Japanese, Spanish and/or Portuguese would be helpful.

 

Computer/Software:

  • Solid working knowledge and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Outlook, Internet, etc.).
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD.

III. Work Environment/Conditions:

Office: Open Office Environment, moderate noise level.
Plant:  Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level.  PPE (
Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, etc. may be required in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas.  Personal attire standards may apply.


Travel:  Must be willing to travel up to 70% of the time to our vendors, plants, customers, etc.  Some international travel will be required.


Physical Demands: Ability to sit and work on a computer for extensive periods of time is required.  While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear.  Performance requires physical ability to inspect, adjust, and operate equipment.  The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time throughout plant.  Occasionally climbing, stooping, or bending on, under, or near tooling and equipment.  May be occasionally required to reach, grasp, and manipulate parts, materials, or equipment.  May be occasionally required to lift up to 30-50 pounds (with or without assistance).
