Position Description:
As a Quotation Specialist at Somacis, you will be responsible for reviewing customer requests for quotes (RFQs) and preparing accurate, competitive, and timely pricing for PCB fabrication. The Quoting Specialist works closely with sales, engineering, and manufacturing to ensure quotes reflect true production capability, cost, and lead time, and plays a direct role in winning new business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review customer RFQ packages, including Gerber files, drill files, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications, to determine manufacturability and cost.
- Prepare accurate, timely price quotes for PCB fabrication based on board specifications, material requirements, and production capability.
- Communicate with customers and internal sales staff to clarify specifications, negotiate terms, and answer questions on submitted quotes.
- Coordinate with engineering, planning, and manufacturing to confirm feasibility, material availability, and realistic lead times before quoting.
- Track and report on quoting activity, including quotes completed, turnaround time, markup, and win/close rates.
- Maintain accurate and organized quote records in the company's ERP or quoting system.
- Follow up on outstanding quotes with customers and sales representatives to support conversion into confirmed orders.
- Research and resolve pricing discrepancies, technical questions, or material/vendor delays in coordination with other departments.
- Stay informed on PCB fabrication processes, materials, and industry pricing trends to keep quotes accurate and competitive.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field preferred.
- Prior experience in quoting, estimating, or customer service within a PCB fabrication or electronics manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret Gerber files, fabrication drawings, and customer technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of PCB fabrication processes, materials, and industry terminology (layer stack-up, surface finish, IPC standards).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with ERP or quoting software a plus.
- Familiarity with CAM software or PCB design review tools a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and quotes simultaneously under deadline pressure.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to explain technical and cost trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
- As a supplier to aerospace, defense, and other regulated industries, this position may require access to ITAR-controlled information. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
