Research Engineer III — Warfighter Lab

Galvion is seeking a Research Engineer III to join our Warfighter Lab and help advance next-generation human-machine integration capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who combines data science, algorithm development, simulation, biomechanics, and experimental design to solve complex problems and translate research into real-world capabilities.

In this role, you will design and lead experiments, develop algorithms and simulation content, analyze human and systems-integration data, and help maximize the capabilities of laboratory hardware and software. You will work closely with engineers, human factors specialists, stakeholders, and customers to understand performance challenges and develop innovative solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate and leverage advanced data-collection equipment for laboratory research and human-machine integration testing.
  • Apply data science and analytical techniques to human behavior and systems-integration data.
  • Design and develop custom data-collection equipment using technologies such as 3D printing and robotics.
  • Serve as a technical subject-matter expert in human-machine interfaces, data science, and biomechanics.
  • Develop data-processing procedures that transform experimental data into meaningful product insights.
  • Create algorithms and tools for research stimuli, content generation, and virtual simulation.
  • Develop and implement machine-learning algorithms for simulation and research applications.
  • Rigorously validate ML model performance and deploy validated models into simulated environments.
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to identify and resolve product-performance issues.
  • Support human factors, user-experience activities, and user evaluations.
  • Engage directly with current and prospective customers to understand needs and communicate technical solutions.

What You Bring

  • Master’s degree plus 3+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD, in Biomechanics, Psychology, Human-Machine Interface, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong programming experience in Python, including NumPy and Matplotlib.
  • Experience developing with Unity 3D.
  • Strong proficiency with scientific and machine-learning frameworks such as SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Knowledge of human-factor requirements and constraints associated with dismounted soldiers.
  • Strong understanding of mechanics, kinematics, and trigonometry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organization, and execution skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative engineering team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Military experience is a plus.

Work Environment

This position combines engineering, research, and hands-on laboratory work. Responsibilities may include:

  • Working in laboratory and office environments.
  • Regular operation of data-collection and research equipment.
  • Working with weapon replicas and military VAS equipment.
  • Using hand and power tools.
  • Frequent standing and hands-on equipment interaction.
  • Lifting equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel for military user evaluations and other research activities.
  • Potential international travel.

Why This Role Matters

At Galvion, your work will contribute directly to the development and evaluation of technologies designed around the needs of the modern warfighter. You’ll have the opportunity to combine engineering, data science, human factors, simulation, and experimental research in a highly applied environment where your work can influence real products and user outcomes.
