Sign On Bonus - This position is eligible to receive a $750.00 sign on bonus (paid in 2 installments) after you have worked 180 days. 

Our 2nd Shift offers a 10% shift premium for employees.

GENERAL SUMMARY

To ensure safe and efficient movement of product throughout the entire system. Work in the weld, press, and warehouse areas of the facility ensuring timely product/dunnage movement in your area of responsibility. The crane operator / coil loader is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, loading, unloading, staging, and handling of steel coils used in stamping operations.  This position primarily operates overhead cranes and oil-handling equipment to supply presses with the correct steel coils based on the production schedule.  The crane operator / coil loader works closely with press operators, team leaders, material handling, production control, and other production personnel to ensure presses are supplied with the correct material while maintaining safe material handling practices and minimizing production downtime. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Safely operate overhead cranes and associated coil-handling equipment to move steel coils throughout assigned production and storage areas.
• Load steel coils onto press uncoilers and coil-feed equipment according to production requirements.
• Remove partial, unused, or completed coils from press uncoilers and return material to the proper designated storage or staging location.
• Verify coil identification, part number, material type, width, thickness, weight, and other required information before delivering or loading material to a press.
• Confirm the correct material is being supplied for the scheduled production job before loading the coil.
• Inspect crane, hooks, chains, slings, coil grabs, lifting devices, and other material-handling equipment prior to use in accordance with established safety requirements.
• Properly secure and balance loads before lifting or transporting steel coils.
• Maintain awareness of crane capacity, coil weight, lifting-device capacity, and established load limits.
• Stage coils in designated areas to support upcoming production requirements and minimize press downtime.
• Communicate with Press Operators and production leadership regarding coil availability, material changes, shortages, damaged material, or other conditions that may affect production.
• Assist with coil changes and material changeovers as required.
• Maintain accurate material identification and traceability throughout the handling and staging process.
• Ensure partial coils are properly identified before being returned to inventory or staging areas.
• Identify and report damaged coils, incorrect material, damaged lifting equipment, unsafe conditions, or material discrepancies immediately.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe coil storage, staging, and crane operating areas.
• Follow established pedestrian and material-handling traffic requirements.
• Follow all applicable lockout/tagout, machine safety, crane safety, and material-handling procedures.
• Never travel suspended loads over employees or allow employees to position themselves beneath suspended loads.
• Participate in required safety, crane operation, material handling, quality, and production training.
• Support continuous improvement activities related to material flow, press changeovers, safety, quality, and productivity.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety is a critical responsibility of this position due to the size and weight of steel coils being handled.

The Crane / Coil Loader must:

• Follow all established overhead crane and lifting procedures.
• Complete required pre-use inspections of cranes and lifting devices.
• Understand and comply with rated capacities for cranes, hooks, chains, slings, coil grabs, and other lifting equipment.
• Maintain control of suspended loads at all times.
• Maintain appropriate clearance from personnel, equipment, presses, racks, and other obstructions.
• Stop work and immediately report any unsafe crane, lifting device, coil, equipment, or workplace condition.
• Never operate equipment that has been identified as unsafe or defective.
• Follow all required PPE requirements.
• Maintain situational awareness while moving coils through production areas.

QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Verify material identification before loading material onto production equipment.
• Maintain proper material identification and traceability.
• Prevent damage to steel coils during lifting, transportation, staging, and loading.
• Report material discrepancies or suspected quality concerns before the material is used.
• Follow established procedures for handling nonconforming or damaged material.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
• Previous overhead crane, steel coil, or heavy material-handling experience preferred.
• Ability to successfully complete company-required overhead crane and coil-handling training and certification.
• Ability to read and understand production schedules, material tags, coil identification, work instructions, and safety procedures.
• Basic math and measurement skills.
• Ability to understand material weights and equipment load capacities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with production employees and leadership.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
• Ability to work independently while coordinating activities with production personnel.
• Ability to work overtime and/or alternate shifts as required by production needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to:

• Frequently stand and walk throughout the production area for extended periods.
• Frequently use hands and arms to operate crane controls and material-handling equipment.
• Bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform other physical movements associated with manufacturing operations.
• Work around large steel coils, stamping presses, moving equipment, and suspended loads.
• Work in a manufacturing environment where noise, vibration, temperature changes, oils, lubricants, and other industrial conditions may be present.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment.
