Department Overview

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (APOM) at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) is looking for a generalist-intensivist to join the Critical Care Activation and Adult Anesthesiology teams.

Function/Duties of Position

The appointee will spend part of their clinical time providing anesthesia services in the operating room and procedural locations. Procedural locations include ambulatory facilities and non-OR anesthesia sites. The appointee will be expected to participate in medical direction of nurse anesthetists and resident supervision, as well as provide independent anesthesia care in all locations. They will not be expected to provide routine care for children under the age of 13, or obstetric anesthesia care.

 

The appointee will spend their remaining clinical time providing critical care as part of the innovative multidisciplinary Critical Care Activation Team (CCAT). CCAT provides critical care support throughout the OHSU health system, including triaging escalation of care for patients outside the ICUs and supporting Code Blue and Rapid Response teams. They also support critically ill patients in community hospitals throughout the state of Oregon through tele-ICU rounds. The CCAT intensivist supervises and instructs residents and fellows and collaborates with advanced practice providers in a multidisciplinary and interprofessional team.

 

The appointee is expected to incorporate appropriate teaching of the learners on the team into their daily practice as well as participate in formal teaching of trainees and allied staff. Teaching is done through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year and through teaching in the course of performing their own job by modeling best practices, mentoring trainees, guiding learning through delegating graduated and focused levels of responsibility. The appointee will have a demonstrated competence in teaching and be familiar with relevant guidelines from all applicable regulating bodies.

 

The appointee is expected to attend team meetings and participate in quality improvement. They will provide an outstanding level of professional performance that is delivered in compliance with the regulations and guidelines of all relevant regulating bodies. The appointee teats all patients, families, research subjects, students, trainees and co-workers with dignity and respect.

The appointee is encouraged to maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases. The may also pursue scholarly activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within anesthesiology and perioperative medicine.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in medicine, residency training in Anesthesiology, fellowship in critical care medicine.

  • Demonstrated competence in patient care & teaching.

  • Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Anesthesiology and Anesthesiology Critical Care are required.

  • Ideal candidates will have interest and expertise in research/scholarship/discovery.
